Baby Tattooville ’14 / Interviews: Brom

Washington State based artist Brom is a legend in the fantasy world, with art work in movies, games and books.  His latest book Krampus, the Yule Lord was released in April of this year and he is coming off of recent appearances at Emerald City Con and Fantasy Con. AM recently got the chance to talk with him while he was preparing for this year’s Baby Tattooville about things like his experiences working on Van Helsing, how living in the Pacific Northwest affects his work and who he […]

Baby Tattooville ’14 / Previews: “Through The Looking Glass” @ Riverside Art Museum

Baby Tattooville 2014 is fast approaching so we will start bringing preview coverage of the event starting with this look at something currently showing at the Riverside Art Museum. This iteration of the annual companion exhibition is entitled Through The Looking Glass and features work from this year’s official participants which includes Brom, Laurie Lee Brom, Bob Dob, Eric Fortune, Tara McPherson, Brian Smith, Joe Sorren, and Jeff Soto (seen above). Also on display were all the previous year’s Art Jams (collaborative paintings from participating […]

Baby Tattooville ’12: Art Jam

The Art Jam is the centerpiece of Baby Tattooville (see 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008). As in the previous five years, artists in attendance collaborate on the large piece from the start of the BT weekend on Friday until the Saturday night deadline. Prints are then made of this completed painting and distributed to attendees after the weekend. As you can tell from the photo of the finished Art Jam piece, this year’s painting was a more conservatively sized piece compared to last year’s 5th anniversary […]

Baby Tattooville ’12: Michael Hussar – “Wunderland”

As we continue our coverage of this year’s Baby Tattooville, we turn our attention to Michael Hussar’s Wunderland, which was a feature for the art retreat for the fourth straight year (see 2011). Those familiar with Hussar’s two night event quickly settled in while newcomers casually perused. As in the past, all of the action took place in Hussar’s suite. Models posed as muses deep into the night for Hussar and other artists to draw. Discuss Baby Tattoville here.

Openings: “Baby Tattooville Inside Out: A Private Affair Made Public” @ Riverside Art Museum

Last Friday night, the Riverside Art Museum hosted the opening for the annual exhibition associated with the Baby Tattooville event in the neighboring Mission Inn. As usual, the showing (this year entitled Baby Tattooville Inside Out: A Private Affair Made Public) featured work from the artists who were participating in this year’s art retreat including Coop, Mark Frauenfelder, Brandi Milne (seen above), Nouar, Kathie Olivas, Nathan Ota, Brandt Peters, Ragnar, Rob Reger, and RISK, all who made it out to the opening reception. Discuss Baby Tattooville here.

Baby Tattooville ’12: First Look

As referenced to earlier this afternoon, we checked into our room at the Mission Inn in Riverside for a weekend of art at this year’s Baby Tattooville. After registration, attendees were welcomed in for an introduction to this year’s featured artists which included Coop, Mark Frauenfelder, Brandi Milne, Nouar, Kathie Olivas, Nathan Ota, Brandt Peters, Ragnar, Rob Reger, RISK, and surprise guest Gris Grimly. After discussion what each participant’s plans were for the weekend, they commenced signing the all-in-one print featuring imagery from every artist created for this year’s […]

AM has just arrived at the historic Mission Inn in Riverside for the annual Baby Tattooville art retreat (see our 2009, 2010, and 2011 coverage). Before checking in at the hotel, we walked over to the Riverside Art Museum to get a glimpse of the yearly associated exhibition which this time is entitled Baby Tattooville Inside Out:  A Private Affair Made Public with the opening scheduled for tonight (October 5th). Artists who are participating this year include Coop, Mark Frauenfelder, Brandi Milne, Nouar, Kathie Olivas, Nathan Ota, Brandt Peters, Ragnar, […]

Baby Tattooville ’11: Goodie Bag

We still have a couple more things to cover before we close the book on this year’s Baby Tattooville. One of these is the much anticipated “goodie bag” that attendees to the annual art retreat receive at the end of the weekend. Besides the sweet Diesel Fuel print set and reproduction of the Art Jam painting, a collection of other limited editions, drawings, and art paraphernalia was given away just before the trip home. More detailed photos after the jump by Carlos Gonzalez.

Baby Tattooville ’11: Art Jam (Final)

As veterans of the annual Baby Tattooville art retreat know, how the final Art Jam collaborative painting ends up looking is nothing like how it starts. This year was no different as the 30 artists in attendance put their mark on the extra large canvas to accommodate the reunion year. The final composition was surprisingly pretty balanced despite the inevitable drama that develops in the process, perhaps in no small part due to the leadership skills of Captain Jeff Soto (interviewed). More photos after the jump […]

Baby Tattooville ’11: Michael Hussar – “Wunderland”

For the third straight year (see 2010), one of the featured artists, Michael Hussar, hosted the strictly adult-oriented portion of Baby Tattooville – Wunderland. As before, all of the action took place in Hussar’s suite where in the main room, models posed on a large bed as muses for Hussar & other artist’s drawings and for impromptu photo sessions (see above with Ron English). The fun also continued in the second room where attendees and artists mingled. Some were able to meet for the first […]
