Last night in London, Dreweatts kicked off an important week of auctions at the major houses with decidedly weak results. At a mere shadow of the £300,800 – 429,400 estimate, their October Urban Contemporary Art Sale realized a total of £166,320 ($258,646) non-inclusive of Buyer’s Premiums, barely half the low end estimate. Last Wednesday, Bonhams hosted their September Urban Art Sale to a “packed house” at the New Bond Street location in Central London. Last Wednesday during Christie’s Post War & Contemporary Art sale in London, a historic Banksy canvas came very close to tripling its high estimate of £50,000. For our readers who aren’t located in the UK, you probably haven’t seen Banksy’s one hour TV special, The Antics Roadshow, which aired on Channel 4 over the weekend. Titled as a pun on the Antiques Roadshow, a long-running British television show, Banksy explores the “history of behaving badly in public, from anarchists and activists to attention seeking eccentrics” including many interviews and re-enactments with the actual protagonists. After his foray into films, it looks like Banksy will also begin dabbling in TV programming as he continues to use the media to spread his message. This Saturday, August 13th (10:45 pm local time), UK audiences will be able to catch The Antics Roadshow on Channel 4 as Mr. B charts the “history of behaving badly in public including the antics of anarchists, activists, and attention seeking eccentrics.” The show will be available online afterwards for those who miss it.
