Don’t tell us that we’re the only people disappointed that Banksy didn’t win the Academy Award’s Best Documentary category. AM has been in full Oscar-watch mode since the movie’s nomination to the shortlist. After taking a brilliant turn as the director of the Simpsons’ opening sequence, Banksy returns as a reference in the last episode (22×14) as a timely tag backstage as America’s favorite animated family makes an appearance at the Oscars. Looks like another piece has been discovered showing he’s a fan of Charlie Brown on the side of an abandoned fire-damaged building. We wonder how many he has planned as we lead up to the Oscars. As our readers must know by now, Banksy’s film “Exit Through The Gift Shop” has been nominated for an Oscar. Although it doesn’t appear that he will be allowed to personally accept the award if he wins, it looks like he made the trip out to Los Angeles just the same. It’s been months of buzz and speculation since the Exit Through The Gift Shop documentary made the 15 movie long-list for this year’s Oscars. In near perfect synchronicity with the “Sperm” piece Banksy officially claimed as his own through his website last week, another work popped up in the London Borough of Camden which bears striking resemblances to that of the illustrious street artist. Creative Process: Banksy x Simpsons Intro Animation

Banksy recently gave us an inside look behind how he created and directed the incredible animated intro for the Simpsons episode that aired last fall. The storyboard sketch details an acerbic wit that may have been sharper than FOX would have liked: Take for example the Rupert Murdoch portrait hidden behind the t-shirt scene or the skeletal dipping of the animation cel into the toxic drums. If today’s Urban Art auction at Bonhams can be seen as an indicator for the overall health of the Urban/Street Art market, then things are looking absolutely strong, exciting, and prosperous.
