Banksy – “In the Event of a Divorce Cut Here” @ Christie’s “Dennis Hopper” Auction

Near the end of 2010, AM attended the afternoon session of Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary auction (full results here.) This field trip was special in many ways for us. First, it served as the estate sale of legendary actor/collector Dennis Hopper’s impressive art collection with a chance for us to see many of the famous works he collected as we were shown in a video tour of his residence created before his passing. The second was to get a chance to bid on a unique variation of […]

That Banksy image (Choose Your Weapon) you first saw on the streets here, and then at the Marks & Stencils show (covered), is finally being released as expected. The gray colorway seen above will be an edition of 100, with a smaller edition of 25 for the red, blue and green versions, each priced at £450.00  (with all of Banksy’s royalties going to the VOINA artist cooperative in Russia). To win a chance to purchase these prints, go register for an online lottery at Pictures […]

Openings: ‘Marks & Stencils’ pop-up gallery, London

Last Thursday, AM was in London’s Soho district to attend the opening of Marks & Stencils: the Pictures On Walls Christmas season pop-up gallery exhibition, which in previous years has gone by the name of Santa’s Ghetto. There was a great atmosphere at the event. No doubt this was partly assisted by the deceptively strong cocktails being served, which led us to yet again repeat our mistake of equating “sweet drink” with “harmless drink”. But that’s another story. The show harbours a selection of prints […]

Setup / Releases: “Marks and Stencils” and Banksy’s “Choose Your Weapon” Print

What do we spy in the window through which the Marks and Stencils show we mentioned previously is being set up? It looks like the rumored new Banksy print Choose Your Weapon (60 cm x 60 cm, £450.00) which will be released later this month and is based on his recent “Keith Haring Dog” stencil. This group show curated by Pictures on Walls at a 1 Berwick Street in Soho looks to be like the Santa’s Ghetto (featuring Dran and other artists) for this year […]

My Everyday Life is first to open. This installation will feature a selection of original works in the mediums of sculpture and painting. Dran’s Scribouille character – shown above – is set to be the main focus of the show, and you can […]

Video: Interview with “Exit Through The Gift Shop” Producer & Editor

An interesting video popped up recently from Viddler where producer Jaimie D’ Cruz and editor Chris King of Banksy’s “Exit Through The Gift Shop” were interviewed. The two of them talk extensively about how the film came about and the background behind all the footage. Hearing this interview may put to rest some to the speculation that the movie was one big hoax, although some people will never be convinced.  Of course, this could all be part of the game but they would have to […]

Artwork Donated by Banksy Sells for $75,000 @ Christie’s

The artwork pictured above recently sold at Christie’s Post-War & Contemporary Art Day Auction for $75,000. The 2010 spray enamel on found aluminium sign piece measures 36″ x 36″ and was donated by Banksy to help benefit the restoration fund for “Defenestration” in San Francisco. Kudos to the elusive artist for helping out a worthy cause. For those die-hard Banksy collectors that are curious, yes, the work has been authenticated by Pest Control Office. Streets: New Banksy x 3

Remember the Koons dog piece Banksy put up in April as part of the LA premiere of his documentary? Well, you knew it would only be a matter of time before he took on another famous canine – the Haring dog!  Take another look at this piece as well as a couple other new pieces in London, a take on The Clash’s London Calling cover and a robot box head piece after the jump… Guess the Simpsons project didn’t take up all his time.
