Swoon & Matt Small in Zambia

Recently Swoon (interviewed), Matt Small (interviewed), Mike Snelle from Black Rat Press (interviewed), and RJ Rushmore (from Vandalog) traveled to Zambia to work with students at the Robert Shitima School. The school allows orphans and children from nearby shantytowns to get free K-9 schooling. With the help of Zamcog, they were able to give art workshops on activities such as printmaking with lino-blocks, portrait painting, and collage to 200+ students. Benefits: The Mending Broken Hearts Appeal

The British Heart Foundation will be holding a event next month hoping to raise £50 million to fund the cutting-edge cardiac-regenerative research.  The benefit entitled The Mending Broken Hearts Appeal (curated by CCA gallery) will feature artwork from a group of artists including Damien Hirst, Sir Peter Blake, Jonathan Yeo, Gavin Turk, and Antony Micallef (interviewed) among many others. Benefit: “Swimming Cities” India Fundraiser

Swoon (interviewed) and her friends are throwing a benefit silent auction this Friday, March 5th, to raise funds for a Swimming Cities project on India’s Ganges river. The fundraiser will feature work from a nice list of artists (seen after the jump), as well as the unveiling of a 18′ x 8′handcrafted, stainless steel catamaran powered by a motorcycle driven paddle wheel. Events: Benefit for HiArt!’s Time In Program @ Haunch of Venison NYC

On February 1st, Midtown gallery Haunch of Venison will play host to an auction event to benefit HiArt!’s Time In children’s art initiative. Time In is an innovative program that allows children from underserved classrooms to participate in an arts-based immersion designed to open their imaginations and creativity through visual art, music, movement, film and literature. Releases: “Help Haiti” @ Stolenspace

Photographer Jeff Antebi has teamed up with London’s StolenSpace gallery to launch an online fundraiser for the people of Haiti. Antebi visited Haiti twice last year (you can read his experiences here) and will be releasing editioned prints of his photography to help raise funds for Oxfam and Doctors Without Borders. The prints are limited to runs of 150, are priced at a very affordable $64.50 each and are available through StolenSpace. Couple more photos after the jump.

A couple weeks ago, Thinkspace hosted “A Cry For Help,” a show that donated part of the proceeds to support Born Free USA & the Animal Protection Institute.
