Bookshelf: ‘Out of Sight: Urban Art / Abandoned Spaces’ by RomanyWG

From the lead page featuring an image of Cyclops and Sweet Toof wearing full face clown and wolf masks next to a just-completed Lenny character in an abandoned mental asylum, Out of Sight: Urban Art / Abandoned Spaces drags the reader into the underground of the underground. Street art is often seen by many as a form of advertising – and it often can be. A street version of of a forthcoming gallery piece or the next print release somehow seeking validation from an outdoor, […]

Update / Releases: “Ai Weiwei’s Blog: Writings, Interviews, and Digital Rants, 2006-2009″ Book

Perhaps foreshadowing his own fate, Ai Weiwei’s chilling last blog entry before it was taken down went as follows: “What can they do to me? Nothing more than to banish, kidnap, or imprison me. Perhaps they could fabricate my disappearance into thin air, but they don’t have any creativity or imagination. And they lack both joy and the ability to fly.” As the world unites in support of the safe and immediate release of the famous artist and activist after his recent detention (now missing […]

Ryan McGinness book signing @ Zakka

AM friend and photographer Joe Russo was in Dumbo, Brooklyn, last Saturday night for the Ryan McGinness book signing at uber-cool Japanese art and design book store Zakka. McGinness was there in support of his latest limited edition book, No Sin/ No Future, which is “a collaged collection of snapshots, sketched and scans, culled from the artist’s studio archives.” Joe reported that Ryan was very friendly and eager to talk about his work, and hinted about the possibility of more exclusive McGinness coverage in the […]
