POW WOW ’14 & 1xRUN Prints & Show

The annual POW! WOW! art retreat in Hawaii starts this weekend and 1xRUN will be on site to work on a special show at Loft in Space / Fresh Cafe set to open on February 14th. They have also partnered with Pangea Seed, a local non profit, to exhibit prints from their archives and their new Sametan figure customized by over 30 artists. Previews: “Don’t Wake Daddy VIII” @ Feinkunst Krüger

Feinkunst Krueger Gallery in Hamburg, Germany, is opening their 8th edition of the annual Don’t Wake Daddy group show on the 1st of December. Previews: Brendan Monroe – “Turning” @ Galerie LJ

Coinciding this week with the start of the FIAC art fair in Paris, Galerie LJ will opening Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) latest solo show tomorrow (October 22). Entitled Turning, the exhibition will include a series of new paintings on paper and wood sculptures will continue the move towards abstraction in his recent work with imagery exploring his fascination with nature and its organic intricacies. Releases: Brendan Monroe x Mars1 – “Ascender” Print

Rarely has collaborations melded the styles of two artists resulting an image so stunning like the painting that resulted in a new print release from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) & Mars-1. Ascender is now available on Monroe’s webstore, with the paper size at 33.7 x 24.5 inches & image size 31.3 x 22.5 inches. The print will be in a edition of 100, signed and numbered, and cost $225. Openings: “Buddy System Invitational” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Earlier this month, the Buddy System Invitational (curated by Sven Davis) opened at the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. The group exhibition centered on the interesting concept having each of the 22 invited artists bring along a fellow artist to exhibit alongside them with each contributing one 16 x 20″ & one 8 x 8″ artwork. Previews: “Risqué {dirty little pictures}” @ Long Beach Museum of Art

On Thursday night, September 19th, the Long Beach Museum of Art will host the opening of a new group exhibition entitled Risqué {dirty little pictures}. Curated by Nathan Spoor and Jeff McMillan, the works from the show will be displayed on the museum’s second-floor Kilsby Gallery and will include 40 8 x 10″ paintings from 40 artists including Audrey Kawasaki (seen above), Ron English, Eric White, Glenn Barr, Brendan Monroe, Aron Wiesenfeld, and more. Showing: Brendan Monroe – “Melting Into The Floor” @ Richard Heller Gallery

Earlier this month, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) opened his new solo show at the Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles. Entitled Melting Into the Floor, the new body of work includes paintings on paper and a number of sculptures in wood. Drawing from the name of the show, many of the pieces explore the transformation between liquids, gases, and solids – especially the crossing points at which the alteration occurs.
