Michael Johansson – “Shades and Variables” @ Galleri Andersson/Sandström (Stockholm)

A couple month ago, the Stockholm location of Galleri Andersson/Sandström hosted new work from Swedish artist Michael Johansson (featured). Continuing his recent spate of showings in Europe, Shades and Variables featured works that he has become known form. Color coded Tetris-like cubes constructed perfectly from everyday items, an installation wall of tightly fitted components, and his play on toy kits filled the space. Prolific NYC-based artist KAWS has been very active lately showing his paintings & sculptures at art fairs & museums. Openings: Billy Norrby – “The Stone Like” @ CHG Circa

On the same night as Ron English’s solo at Corey Helford, their sister gallery several doors down, CHG Circa also hosted an opening reception. The Stone Like featured the paintings of Billy Norrby, rendered in a style reminiscent of the master works from the Romanticism movement. Damien Hirst x Rihanna for GQ

For their 25th anniversary issue, British GQ enlisted the help of Damien Hirst to design the cover along with Rihanna. Styled with snakes entwined on the R&B singer’s body and on her head as well as slit eye contacts, the spread certainly has references to the mythical Medusa.
