The inaugural edition of STRARTA fair was opened this weekend at Saatchi Gallery, at the very beginning of London art week. The Saatchi Gallery and Christie’s are partnering for Thinking Big, a special auction of major contemporary sculpture and installation on 17 October offered to support the Saatchi Gallery’s continuing policy for free entry to all exhibitions, and free education programme for schools. On the 11th of October, StolenSpace in London opened a solo show of artist Haroshi. The Japanese artist that built his name and career around his huge love for skateboarding brought his latest work to the British capital in a show simply titled Pain. Next week, Masakatsu Sashie makes his New York debut with an exhibition at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. For now, we’ll bring you an inside look Sashie’s studio as he prepares for this show. From the looks of things it appears he will bring back his urban spheres and display the interesting perspectives on a society filled with modernism and consumerism. Reebok recently released a line featuring the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat as part of their ongoing Affili’Art program. The Fall/Winter 2013 collection features the late artist’s imagery screen-printed and embroidered across different shoes and is now available at Reebok Reserve stockists. Openings: David Ellis – “Hudson River Alley” @ Joshua Liner

New York based artist David Ellis currently has a solo show titled Hudson River Alley going at Joshua Liner Gallery through October 19. This exhibition showcases the beautiful body of work consisitng of sculptures and paintings influenced by his new studio surroundings in Woodstock, NY. The area’s natural and historical surroundings plays a role in the artist’s use of tobacco-stained paper and embrace of imagery such as black bears, silhouettes of soldiers, and the American flag. There are only few days left before Brooklyn-based artist, KAWS opens his solo show at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia on October 11th. As previously mentioned the artist is working on the institution’s inaugural plinth sculpture, but also, these days he is busy installing his paintings in the galleries of the Historic Landmark Building. From the photos taken from KAWS’ Instagram, we can see that he has prepared a whole new series of his signature tondos in different sizes, but also, a new series of square canvases/panels. […]

Openings: Ian Davenport – “Colorfall” @ Paul Kasmin

Now through October 26th at Paul Kasmin Gallery, British artist and YBA alumnus Ian Davenport has an exhibition of new paintings titled Colorfall. Known for his colorful “puddle” abstract paintings, Davenport brings brilliantly chromatic canvases, a spectrum of more or less evenly painted stripes cascading down before some unseen current disrupts their flow, transforming them into swirling eddies of colors mixing together.
