Album Covers: Jeff Koons x Lady Gaga – “ARTPOP”

Yesterday, Lady Gaga revealed the cover for her upcoming album ARTPOP featuring the work of Jeff Koons. Dominated by the image of a nude sculpture of the 27 year old singer, the new artwork was hinted at in her latest single Applause in her lyrics – “One second I’m a Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me.” Behind the sculpture are spliced parts of artworks including Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, which is also referenced in the seashell base at the bottom and Gaga’s bikinis in her Applause […]

AM recently brought you a preview of Antler Gallery’s Unnatural Histories II exhibition including the first look at the Josh Keyes‘ work in the group show. The 2013 British Ceramics Biennial which opened in Stoke-on-Trent on 28 September, celebrates the best in contemporary ceramics through a six-week programme of exhibitions, installations and events. One of the installations, Take Stock by Lawrence Epps, has been created from 12,000 ceramic office workers, which visitors to the biennial will be invited to take away with them. Releases: Nick Walker x Royal Doulton

Nick Walker (interviewed) recently teamed up with English tableware and collectables producer Royal Doulton to produce a series of limited edition plates & mugs. The plates measure at 10.75”, and features iconic images from the street artist entitled New York, Love Vandal, Vandal Airways, as well as a collage. Tomorrow night (October 5th), the Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting new works from Seth Armstrong in their project room. The concept behind this body of work is an interesting one – each of the smaller works below is a blowup of the smaller scenes seen in the big painting above. Studio Visits: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “The Standard Rendez-vous” @ Zidoun & Bossuyt

AM recently stopped by the new studio space of Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyama (interviewed). The Brooklyn-based artist was busy getting ready for his solo exhibition at Luxembourg’s Zidoun & Bossuyt that opened yesterday. It was great to see Matsu focusing more on larger paintings and also the return of his abstract “sundance” style that we’ve come to love. The exhibition runs from October 3rd until November 9th, so stop by if you’re in the area. Discuss Matsu here.

Our friends over at Toy Qube have been quietly working on a project that will bring to life a painting by Josh Keyes (interviewed). We finally got the go ahead to share some detailed images with you. Entitled Lifted II, this meticulously sculpted piece is a three dimensional creation based on the painting we recently showed you from his last exhibition at Roq La Rue.
