Releases: KAWS – “COMPANION: Passing Through” (Black Version)

It’s been a while since we first announced the release of KAWS’ COMPANION: PASSING THROUGH figure. For those who were lucky enough to add the first two colorways and want to complete the trifecta or for those who want one last chance to add the sculpt to your collection, tomorrow at 12 noon (Eastern Time), he will be selling the last black version on his webstore. Openings: Mike Shine – “Flotsam’s Harvest” @ White Walls

A couple months ago, White Walls in San Francisco played host to Flotsam’s Harvest by the Bolinas-based Mike Shine (featured). The exhibition consisted of an immersive installation featuring paintings, films, and performance art filled with symbolism and clues as to solve the dark “World Riddle” posed by Friedrich Nietzsche in his book, Thus Spake Zarathustra. Preview: Diana Al-Hadid & Medardo Rosso @ Workshop, Venice

After 18 months in the making, Gallery Workshop in Venice, Italy, is opening a very special show on the May 30th, showing new works by Diana Al-Hadid, and some classic pieces from Medardo Rosso, in collaboration with the Museo Medardo Rosso and Marianne Boesky Gallery. Studio Visit: Alex Lukas @ Guerrero Gallery

As an encore to his shows in 2010 and 2011 at the Guerrero Gallery, the Philadelphia-based artist will be opening a new solo at the San Francisco showspace this Saturday (May 11th). Reinterpreting American landscapes with a post-apocalyptic tilt, Lukas’ work  imagines a possible desolate future filled with of destruction and violence. Upcoming: Jeff Koons – “New Paintings And Sculpture” @ Gagosian (New York)

On May 9th, the Gagosian Gallery in New York (555 West 24th Street) will be presenting paintings and sculptures from contemporary art giant Jeff Koons. The works selected for this show come from several of his series of works including the Antiquity paintings and sculptures (Balloon Venus seen above), as well as pieces from his Hulk Elvis and Celebration line of works. Florentijn Hofman’s Giant Rubber Duck (Hong Kong)

Currently on view through June 9th at Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour is Florentijn Hofman’s giant inflatable duck, providing an interesting contrast to the spectacular skyline view. The project from the Dutch artist known for his large-scale outdoor sculptures originated in 2007 and has since traveled the world, hitting cities like Sao Paulo, Auckland, Sydney, and Osaka. Openings: KAWS – “Ohhh…” @ Kaikai Kiki

Just hours ago, Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki Gallery in Tokyo hosted the opening of KAWS‘ latest solo show entitled Ohh… The exhibition has been a long time coming for the NY-based artist’s fans and collectors in Japan, also home to his OriginalFake store.
