This Saturday, New York’s Cotton Candy Machine will be holding its second annual “tiny” art show. Entitled Tiny Trifecta, this year’s edition looks to take it up a notch as each artist creates three pieces of original artwork costing only $100 each. One of the featured artists at Art Hong Kong this year was Yayoi Kusama. Her revolutionary style of dots and environmental immersion has received distinction from both Western and Asian art institutions. Even fashion icon Louis Vuitton has recently honored her creativity with a collaborative project that kicks off this season. While in AM was in Hong Kong a couple months ago, besides attending the KAWS solo, the Art Hong Kong fair, an event curated by Suitman, the Daydreaming with… show, and Ai Yamaguchi’s showing, we also stopped by the Gagosian Gallery to check out Andreas Gursky’s first ever exhibition in Asia. For those Ai Weiwei fans out there who would love to add something from the Chinese artist to their collection, here might be an affordable opportunity. The Serpentine Gallery has released a silkscreen print (signed and numbered) from AWW which will be limited to 200, sized at 84 x 84 cm, and cost £300 (excl. VAT). If Tom Fruin’s Watertower installation in Brooklyn is any indication, having artwork tower over art lovers in New York can make the cityscape a lot more interesting. Something that might do just that (as evidenced by these mock-up photos) is the proposed Water Tank Project, except instead of a new structure, existing water tanks (twelve feet high, thirteen feet in diameter) in NYC will be used as canvases for public art. Back in March, we introduced you to a new line of prints from Jeff Soto (interviewed) entitled Seeker Friends. The series of limited editions were from Prints On Wood with each one available for 24 hours after a specified date and time. Each 6″ x 6″ print costs $25 + shipping with $1 of every sale going to plant one tree through the Plant A Billion Trees program.
