Openings: Casey Gray – “Double Knotted” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Last weekend, Double Knotted, Casey Gray’s first solo show with Hashimoto Contemporary opened in San Francisco. The new body of work from the locally-based artist continues his explorations of still life with his unique technique utilizing spray paint and hand-cut masking (check out the video below). Gray’s carefully curated selection of objects are arranged into vibrant compositions, a masterful example being the large 8 x 6 foot showstopper piece. Releases: Aron Wiesenfeld – “Eva” Print

Starting tomorrow (April 6th) at 10 am PST, Aron Wiesenfeld will be releasing a new print entitled Eva. The time-limited edition will be available for 7 days from that point forward for $135. The print has an image size of 20 x 24 inches & a paper size of 23 x 26 inches and features some of the the haunting and atmospheric imagery that the San Deigo-based artist is known for. The eighth edition of the Essential 1800 Artist Series features the artwork of Enoc Perez. This annual series was started by 1800 Tequila as a way to showcase art in a non-traditional medium and has featured the artwork of such luminaries as Basquiat and Haring. Today at 9 am EST, Daniel Arsham will be releasing Future Relic 07, a continuation of his series of limited edition sculptural works. The objects are created with repurposed material and are made to look like remains that future archeologists may discover from our time, hence the name. A couple weekends ago, the HOCA Foundation in Hong Kong hosted an opening reception for a new showing from Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) entitled Oh Magic Night. Taking full advantage of the 11,000 exhibition space, the Brooklyn-based artist presented 45 paintings and 10 sculptural works that have been a year in the making. The rich, vibrant, and complex compositions draw from experiences in America as well as from his Japanese ancestry both in subject matter and techniques, some quite impressive in scale. On April 1st, Hashimoto Contemporary will present a new body or work from Casey Gray in their San Francisco space. Entitled Double Knotted, this will the first solo at the gallery by the locally-based artist featuring his special form of still life utilizing spray paint and hand-cut masking techniques.
