Recap / Videos: KAWS – “A Virtual Reality Experience”

For those that missed the unveiling of KAWS’ new virtual reality experience created with the help Visionaire, Artnet has nice recap of the event here. Visitors at the New York Public Library were taken on a studio visit with the Brooklyn-based artist, which quickly turns into a kaleidoscope of colors, misbehaving characters, and surreal imagery when he leaves the room. Releases: FriendsWithYou – “Little Cloud Pocket Amulet”

Earlier today, FriendsWithYou release a new sculpture edition – the Little Cloud Pocket Amulet. Limited to a run of 1000, the collectible meant to be an “enduring symbol of love and light as well as the idea that everything has a soul”  is made from brass plated lead-free pewter and will cost $60. Upcoming: KAWS (VR Experience) @ New York Public Library

Tomorrow, January 29th (1-4pm), at the New York Public Library, Visionaire will unveiling its latest virtual reality experience featuring the work of KAWS. Upcoming: Matzu // Tomokazu Matsuyama – “Oh Magic Night” @ HOCA Foundation

After a high profile showing at Harbour City Hong Kong in 2014 (covered), Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) will be returning the the Asian city-state for an exhibition with the HOCA Foundation. Showing: Henry Gunderson – “Shoes Etc.” @ 247365

Currently at 247365 in New York, Henry Gunderson has a show on view entitled Shoes Etc consisting of five new paintings and a sculpture. For his second solo with the gallery, the talented young artist presents his shoe ecosystem paintings as the main attraction, each one centered on a theme or idea. Rounding out the exhibition is a sculpture hanging from the ceiling along with a shoe drive to support Shoes For All, giving visitors a chance to donate footwear to a good cause. Currently at Charlie James Gallery in Los Angeles, Patrick Martinez has a new versatile body of work on display entitled All Season Portfolio. Previews: “Psychological Realism” @ Booth Gallery

The first exhibition of the 2017 for Booth Gallery will be a group exhibition entitled Psychological Realism. Opening tomorrow night (January 21st), the show will explore the intricacies of identity through the eyes of Sergio Barrale, Daniel Bilodeau, Rune Christensen, Jesse Draxler, Erik Jones, Maria Kreyn, Adam Miller, Jean-Paul Mallozzi, David McLeod, Henrik Uldalen, and Jonathan Viner. Seen above is a something from McLeod as he ups the ante on his paint on glass works by utilizing multiple overlapping planes of glass.
