Damien Hirst x Supreme – Signed Decks @ Other Criteria

Remember when we told you the news that Damien Hirst had not one, but two deck releases with the New York based Skate company Supreme? Well, the news is about to go to another level as Mr. Hirst apparently kept the 200 AP’s that he received from the collaboration and is going to give you a chance to buy them from his company Other Criteria on July 12th. 160 unsigned decks will be available for $778 and 40 signed decks will be available for $1945. Showing / Viewpoints: Sage Vaughn – ‘Children of a Lesser God’ @ Lazarides Gallery

The first UK solo show by LA-based Sage Vaughn (referred to in early May) opened a few weeks back at Lazarides Gallery in London with a title ostensibly borrowed from the 1980 play by Mark Medoff or its subsequent film adaptation. While Children of a Lesser God presents no radical thematic or stylistic departures for Vaughn, the exhibition is a strong one — especially the part in the gallery’s main space on the ground floor, where canvases from the artist’s Wildlife series have been hung […]

Previews: Tat Ito – “Memento Mori” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

New York-based Japanese artist Tat Ito makes his NYC solo debut with a show at the Joshua Liner Gallery entitled Memento Mori, the opening reception for which takes place 6-9pm this Thursday. The Latin phrase (literally “remember you will die”) often is used in reference to artwork representing death or the impermanent nature of life. However, from the look of the preview images we’ve seen, Ito seems to be using the term—along with certain visual allusions (like the lobster above) found within his new series […]

Openings: ‘Printmaking Today / ROA Installation’ @ Black Rat Projects

AM had to cut our evening in London short this Thursday due to problems with the trains, so unfortunately missed our VNA friends’ new issue launch, but we did manage to get to Black Rat Projects’ Printmaking Today show. In addition to their great looking and very large multiple layered edition from Swoon (interviewed), BRP also presented a series of secondary market editioned works from such contemporary artists as Peter Blake, Tracy Emin, Grayson Perry, Peter Doig and Damien Hirst as well as editioned work […]

Showing: Damien Hirst – “Forgotten Promises” @ Gagosian (Hong Kong)

After bringing you a glimpse (when Murakami visited) of the inaugural show at the Gagosian in Hong Kong, the gallery has sent us a more detailed look at the installation of the show and views of the spacious interior. Forgotten Promises includes some favorites and some newer works from Damien Hirst such as stunning photorealistic oil paintings of butterflies, diamond cabinets, the much talked about diamond encrusted baby skull, and much more. Take a look at more images after the jump…

Speaking of human “domes” we also get to see […]

Teaser: Damien Hirst – “Forgotten Promises” @ Gagosian Gallery (Hong Kong)

To christen their new space in style, the Gagosian in Hong Kong will be hosting Damien Hirst’s Forgotten Promises as their debut show on January 18. After famously celebrating the opening of their Paris branch in October with Cy Twombly, the powerhouse gallery will followup with their first outpost in Asia by bringing the UK badboy along and word is he will be exhibiting his “mini skull” fashioned after child’s skull and adorned with pink diamonds – a scaled-down version of For the Love of […]

Openings: Damien Hirst – “The Souls” @ Paul Stolper Gallery

If the show involves Damien Hirst, even a show of framed foilblock prints of 4 different butterflies in an array of colors, you know people will come out to see what it’s all about.  The controversial art world superstar recently opened a show at Paul Stolper Gallery in London and the guest of honor (well, she should have been, at least) – Arrested Motion’s s.butterfly (who we here at the office strongly suspect was an inspiration for the show) was there to bring you the […]
