Openings: “20 Years Under the Influence of Juxtapoz” @ LAMAG

Last weekend in Los Angeles, alongside Robert Williams’ amazing new exhibition (covered), a group show celebrating 20 years of Juxtapoz also opened to the public. Curated by Andrew Hosner from Thinkspace and Gary Pressman from Copro Gallery, the showing featured artists, emerging and established, who have graced the pages of the trailblazing magazine. POW! WOW! ’15 / Openings: Thinkspace – “Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum Of Art School

Last night, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked things off with a group show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum Of Art School (111 Victoria Street). Openings: David MacDowell – “Project Mayhem” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Returning to the site of his last solo show (covered), Dave MacDowell (interviewed) presented a new body of work over the weekend at the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Entitled Project Mayhem, the exhibition certainly caused some damage that as MacDowell targeted anyone and everyone with his special form of caricatured satire – from religious, to political figures, and pop culture icons. Openings: Dave MacDowell – “Lowbrow Love Letter” @ Thinkspace

Last month, besides hosting Jacub Gagnon’s (interviewed) joint show with Yosuke Ueno, Elements and Oddities (covered), Thinkspace also presented the work of master satirist Dave MacDowell.  As he intimated to us in an interview before the show opened, the new body of work, Lowbrow Love Letter was a lighthearted riff on the entire movement’s imagery and artists (you can see his Mark Ryden and Chet Zar inspired paintings above).
