We lead things off for this week’s Rewind with a new video directed by AM contributor theonepointeight giving you a glimpse at the show opening tonight from Victor Castillo in Los Angeles. Not only do you see some of the paintings being installed at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery, you also see the LA-based artist adding color to his signature sausage noses on some sculptures for the show. After bringing you a look at the new work from  Thomas Campbell in Copenhagen, we now turn our attention to two of his other friends who were showing alongside him – Evan Hecox & Ed Templeton. The two other artists also opened solo shows entitled Known Associates & Litmus Test respectively at the V1 Gallery featuring Hecox’s urban environments pieces (seen above) and the skate subculture photography of Templeton. Check out the photo set below… Photo credit: Henrik Haven for Arrested Motion. Discuss this show here. Discuss Evan Hecox here.

Benefits: RxArt 2011 Gala

AM recently attended the annual RxArt benefit gala. The non-profit organization dedicated to placing original fine art (see Jeff Koons) in patient and examination rooms of hospitals have long garnered the staunch support from some other big names in art such as Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Yoshitomo Nara, Marilyn Minter and Ed Ruscha. This year the silent auction was once again filled with impressive original works from notables such as Nate Lowman, José Parlá, Matthew Brannon, Aurel Schmidt, Terry Richardson, Ed Templeton, Tim Barber, Robert […]

Openings: Barry McGee @ Stuart Shave/Modern Art, London

AM has been keeping a watchful eye on Continental European shows featuring works by Barry McGee. Whenever the cashflow gods have been on our side, we’ve booked the necessary flights or trains to attend as well. This was the case with the 2010 joint show with Danish artist HuskMitNavn at A.L.I.C.E. Gallery in Brussels, and the 2009 three-man show (which also included Ed Templeton and Raymond Pettibon) curated by Aaron Rose at Berlin’s Circleculture Gallery. However, the last time McGee exhibited in the UK was […]

Openings: Ed Templeton – “My Soul Is Worried Not Me” @ Nils Stærk Gallery

While showing sporadically with Roberts & Tilton in recent memory, either during Art Basel Miami or their group show Freeflow shortly after the new year, Ed Templeton kicked off his first full fledged solo exhibition in quite some time this past weekend. Hosted at Nils Stærk Gallery in Copenhagen, My Soul Is Worried Not Me afforded one of original Beautiful Losers the opportunity to flex his artistic muscle in a multitude of mediums, with his affinity for photography taking center stage. Marking his third solo […]

With the above preview […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Roberts & Tilton

Another of the many temporary Los Angeles gallery transplants with an impressive booth at Art Basel Miami Beach was Roberts & Tilton (teased). Intriguing work in an array of mediums from Kehinde Wiley, Ed Templeton, Titus Kaphar, Noah Davis, Jimmy Baker, Ai Yamaguchi, Adam Pendleton and Ellen De Meutter were presented in striking fashion. Much like with Ratio 3 (covered), a large chunk of real estate was set aside for Barry McGee to unleash another of his dynamic cluster installations. All told, a solid presentation […]
