Setup: Jeff Koons – “Split-Rocker” @ Rockefeller Center

Later this month, Jeff Koons will be unveiling a retrospective at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art and there are plenty of events to coincide with this key exhibition. One of these will feature his famous outdoor flowered sculpture entitled Split-Rocker at the center of Rockefeller Center. Playing off Koons’ fascination with dichotomy and the in-between, this sculpture melds two notable children rocking toys – the horse and the dinosaur. Its right side is a horse and its left side is a dinosaur. Currently, the enormous sculptural piece […]

Recap: Yoskay Yamamoto – “House of Daydreamers” @ Giant Robot 2

Giant Robot 2 in Los Angeles recently closed out a show from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) entitled House of Daydreamers. The exhibition highlighted the locally-based artist’s diverse range of works including paintings, installations, and wood sculptures. The title of the show summarizes nicely some of the dreamy imagery that we have come to love from him, along with more literal interpretations. More photos from the opening can be seen below and on Hi-Fructose. Photo credit: Hi-Fructose. Discuss Yoskay Yamamoto here.

James Marshall, or better known as Dalek (interviewed) by some of his fans, recently finished a series of murals at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. Basel Week HK ’14: How & Nosm – “Sake Art Bottle” @ Yardbird

During the craziness that was Art Basel Hong Kong, one of the events we attended was How & Nosm’s debut & celebration of their Sake Art Bottle at HK’s Yardbird as well as the unveiling of two site specific murals. As previewed, this unique collaboration project fused the restaurant’s artist sake line with the iconic color & styling of the German born twins. The project featured a silkscreen process that imprints the artwork by the brothers on the front of the collectible bottle. Hand-signed and hand-numbered, the bottle was produced in a […]

Last week, the first POW! WOW! Taiwan wrapped up successfully as invited artists finished public works throughout the capital city of Taipei. With the main event based in Hawaii (see 2014), it looks like the crew behind this annual art retreat will be branching out to different parts of the world. Taipei’s version featured some familiar faces and some new talent, including some local artists. We have already shared photos of James Jean’s impressive wall and an associated show from Brendan Monroe & Evah Fan, […]

Tonight in Seattle, Winston Wächter Fine Art will be opening a solo show from Zaria Forman, who we featured in an Art Focus article earlier this year. The two of them traveled together to see the natural wonders of the world in places like Greenland, Iceland, Patagonia and India, inspiring Zaria’s own interest in documenting disappearing places. Ice to Island features some of the […]
