Basel Week Miami ’13: Brian Viveros & Dan Quintana – “Desensitized13” @ Copro Gallery (SCOPE)

Like in 2010, painters Brian Viveros (featured) & Dan Quintana will be teaming up for a joint exhibition with Copro Gallery with the first showing during Art Basel Week in Miami. Both artists’ portraits of sexy women mixed with surreal elements will be on display at the SCOPE Art Fair from December 4-8 and then move on to Los Angeles to the gallery’s showspace at the Bergamot Station for an opening on December 14th (which will include more originals and limited edition releases). David McCracken – “Diminish and Ascend” @ Sculpture by the Sea

In Bondi, Australia, at the annual Sculpture by the Sea festival, David McCracken had a piece on view entitled Diminish and Ascend. The steps made from aluminum jut out on the side of a hill facing the sea and plays with perspectives to make it look like a never-ending path into the sky. Streets: Shepard Fairey & D*Face (Spain)

Two familiar names in street art, Shepard Fairey (featured) and D*Face (interviewed), united their efforts to paint two massive walls on the side of a building in Malaga, Spain recently. The seven story tall murals next to CAC Malaga were painted on an invite from Maus Málaga as well as from the museum and were representative of both the American and UK-based artist’s styles. For art lovers in New York, if you missed Yayoi Kusama’s amazing showing last year at the Whitney Museum (covered), you need to get over to David Zwirner. I Who Have Arrived In Heaven spans all three locations of the gallery in Chealsea (519, 525 and 533 West 19th Street) and features 27 new large-scale paintings, a video installation, as well as not one but two of the Japanese artist’s famed mirrored infinity rooms. Installations: David Choong Lee @ Union Square Grand Hyatt

Recently, David Choong Lee completely two massive installations in San Francisco at the Grand Hyatt in Union Square. The stunning piece meal assemblages, one in predominantly white and one in red, are composed in a way often seen from the locally-based artist (see 2012 show). Stop by the lobby and bar of the hotel if you are in the area as fellow members of the Further Collective, Mars-1 & Damon Soule and other artists also have work on display. Photo credit: Sori Kim. KAWS (aka Brian Donnelly) was recently featured along with James Jebbia (founder of Supreme) in i-D Magazine in their Collector’s Issue. Entitled “boys and their toys: a tale of two titans,” the article on these two men whose brands have the fervent following of a multitude of fans, also includes a photoshoot with Candice Swanepoel, the South African model best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret. Earlier this month, the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland played host to a three-man show entitled Three The Hard Way. The three artists, Christopher Derek Bruno (interviewed), Augustine Kofie (featured), and Jerry ‘Joker’ Inscoe are all members of the Transcend Collective and have evolved their individual aesthetics while drawing from their graffiti background.
