While in town for their current solo show at Underdogs Gallery (more on this later), PichiAvo completed a stunning new mural near the Santa Apolónia railway station utilizing their signature palette. Soaring high into the urban landscape, the multi-story mural from the Spanish duo features their signature remix of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures with their love for graffiti. Openings: Takashi Murakami – “HEADS↔HEADS” @ Galerie Perrotin (New York)

Taking over three floors of Galerie Perrotin’s New York LES location, Takashi Murakami’s latest show was unveiled last night to the delight of his fans. Entitled HEADS↔HEADS, the body of work on display was dominated by a series of paintings inspired by the work of Francis Bacon as well as a monumental 33 feet long piece that was a homage to Japanese artist Soga Shohaku. Fascinated by the play of light within the nighttime landscape ever since he was a young boy, Stephen Fox has taken that interest and translated it into a career of painting. Streets: D*Face – “Turn Coat” (Paris)

While in town last week for the opening of his show (covered) at Galerie Itinerrance, D*Face (interviewed) was able to get up with a massive mural in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. For those keeping score, this is the second piece (also see 2017) the British street artist has painted for “Street Art 13” project organized by the gallery. Earlier this month in Belgium, the third iteration of the The Crystal Ship art festival (also see 2016 & 2017) welcomed in an international roster of artists to create murals and art installations in the coastal city of Ostend. One of the standout walls comes from Sainer (featured) of the Etam Cru entitled Podkarpacie, a painterly piece which appears to be named after a province in Poland. Avery Singer’s Days of the Week (Computer Pain) is showing through the end of this week at the 439 W. 127th Street location of Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in New York. Choosing a spoken word song Stretching it Wider from John Giorno as the backdrop for this new body of work, the locally-based artist has created seven large canvases for each day of the week to headline the exhibition. Basel Week HK’18 / Openings: James Jarvis – “The Waste Man” @ Aishonanzuka Gallery

On display through April 28th in Hong Kong at Aishonanzuka Gallery, The Waste Man is the latest exhibition from James Jarvis (interviewed). Known for his commercial work as a designer as well as a fine artist, his comics-style imagery (often humorous) is influenced by “philosophy, alternate realities, minimalism and skateboarding.” The show mainly consists of drawings of his signature character, something the British works on quite frequently, as well as a few larger gestural pieces on canvas.
