Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 4

It is his fourth day of his street residency in New York, and for today the ever elusive Banksy created an ongoing series of works titled Random graffiti given a Broadway makeover. Known for simple, witty ideas, this concept is a perfect example of the street artist’s creative thinking. By adding a flashy “The Musical” under random graffiti around the city, addressing either economic, political, neighborhood or completely private issues, the artist is commenting on the superficial way our society tends to look at these or other issues. This concept […]

Studio Visits: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “The Standard Rendez-vous” @ Zidoun & Bossuyt

AM recently stopped by the new studio space of Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyama (interviewed). The Brooklyn-based artist was busy getting ready for his solo exhibition at Luxembourg’s Zidoun & Bossuyt that opened yesterday. It was great to see Matsu focusing more on larger paintings and also the return of his abstract “sundance” style that we’ve come to love. The exhibition runs from October 3rd until November 9th, so stop by if you’re in the area. Discuss Matsu here.

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 3

The image of a dog and fire hydrant’s relationship demonstrated Mr. B’s humor to his fans in the Big Apple once again. To hear the audio commentary that goes along with the piece, call 1.800.656.4271 and choose #2. Check back tomorrow as it looks like there will be a new piece revealed every day. Streets: Os Gemeos x Mark Bode (San Francisco)

After Os Gemeos stopped by Los Angeles to promote their collaboration with Hennessy on a new bottle design, they headed up north to paint some public art in the Bay Area. One of the murals they got up was a joint effort with the San Fran-based Mark Bode. Featuring one of the twins signature yellow-skinned character riding Bode’s father’s Cheech Wizard, the piece can be seen on the back of the Warfield Theatre near 6th and Market Street. Check out some more progress shots below… Photo credit: Joe […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 2

Before Banksy could even put up a second piece from his ongoing monthlong Better Out Than In project on the streets of New York, his first effort already had a portion of it stolen and then painted over. The Big Apple arose this morning to a new piece though featuring the British street legend’s signature cheeky humor (reportedly on West 25th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues). You can follow the progress of this street artist residency yourself on BanksyNY.com, on his Instagram, and here on AM of course. Discuss Banksy here.

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 1

Bristol’s elusive street artist, Banksy, just launched a website, BanksyNY.com, which is dedicated to a new project he hinted at on his official website some 10 days ago. According to the site, Better Out Than In appears to be a month long street residency during which Banksy will be attempting to host an entire show on the streets of New York. Staying true to his love for working in public, he just revealed his first piece (seen above) painted in Chinatown. Each one apparently will have  toll free number next to it, […]
