Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Dabs Myla

Street activity has definitely been strong during Art Basel Week Miami, and this is one of the things that sets it apart from the more prestigious original fair in Switzerland. While walking through the myriad of streets where murals were being put up, we passed by Aussie couple Dabs Myla as they painted this piece. We passed by the Kohn Compound yesterday as we strolled through the Wynwood District in Miami and came across Remi/Rough working on one of outer walls and gate. The UK-based street artist was prepping for the In Situ show put on by Graffuturism tonight featuring post-graffiti abstraction for those interested. Basel Week Miami ’11 / Art Focus: Tracey Snelling

Since we are covering Art Basel Week Miami right now, this week’s new artist for our Art Focus is from the PULSE Art Fair showing at the Rena Bransten Gallery booth. Tracey Snelling is a Bay Area artist who creates mixed media installations incorporating photographs, miniature constructions of buildings or towns, video screens, and projections. While on our way to hit up a plethora of shows associated with Art Basel Week Miami last night at the Design District, we passed by the The Living Room installation. Over the weekend, Shepard Fairey (featured) and the Obey crew continued their large scale projects by pasting over the famed Barracuda wall. Last time we saw Fairey working on this wall was late last year when he collaborated with SABER (interviewed) on a dual rendering of the American Flag (covered). Conor Harrington (interviewed), who has been on a roll with a steady spate of street murals, has uploaded photos of another piece he painted recently entitled Decline of the West. Art Focus: Patrick Jacobs

Next up in our series highlighting artists previously unfeatured here on AM is Patrick Jacobs. The Brooklyn-based artist and sculptor creates these amazing dioramas placed behind glass portals which are like looking into another world. The viewer is instantly transported into an altered reality all due to the incredible amount of detail produced and time-intensive process which can take from weeks to months for each piece.
