Openings: Bom.K – “Vertiges et Somnolence” (Paris)

French graffiti artist Bom.k has launched his first ever solo show, Vertiges et Somnolence (Dizziness & Drowsiness), at Galerie Itinerrance in Paris, showcasing a series of large scale canvases, drawings, and sculptures. With a unique way to paint with spray cans, distorting caps for an ultimate precision of the lines, the founder of the Da Mental Vaporz crew invites the viewer into his world of disturbing hybrid creatures and urban landscapes. The result is breathtaking.

Kenny Scharf Arrested For Graffiti

Just a couple weeks removed from the opening of his big solo show in New York (covered), Kenny Scharf was arrested for painting one of his signature characters illegally on the streets. He has since been released after spending 20 hours in two Brooklyn jails and will face charges of making graffiti and possession of a graffiti instrument. You can read all the juicy tidbits here, but this was an interesting quote – “Cops who arrested me were fans and wanted to talk about Exit Through The Gift […]

Streets: Metlac Bridge Graffiti (Mexico)

Taking risks is certainly part of every graffiti artist’s job description, but here is an example that even some seasoned writers may have a problem with – especially if they have a fear of heights. Braving a narrow ledge on the side of highest railroad bridge in North America (430 feet high), some young guns have recently tagged the Metlac Bridge in Veracruz, Mexico to make their names known. If these photos are enough or if you have questions about their authenticity, head over here to […]

Streets: RIME, DCEVE, and TOPER (New York)

The Los Angeles-based and MSK-affiliated RIME recently made the trip out to New York for this standout wall including the names of Smart Crew members DCEVE and TOPER. As evidenced by his other moniker “Jersey Joe”, RIME has roots and experience getting up in the area which he used to full advantage with this rooftop collaboration or tribute. While there, he also painted an outline of a sketch NYC’s HAZE did of RIME’s name in an alley under the Manhattan Bridge (set up by Klughaus Gallery). Via […]

Not only were the street artists active in Miami for Art Basel Week, the writers were out in full force as well. Take a look at this sweet new wall from Jersey Joe aka RIME, whose indoor work we last saw in Los Angeles in August. This piece above was painted in the Wynwood Arts District and spans almost a block. More photos after the jump from Head8K.

This show concentrates on circular shapes in an interconnect system, while consistently maintaining the draftsman-like quality in his signature style. Check out photos from opening night after the jump…

Studio Visits / Preview: Augustine Kofie – “Circulatory System” @ White Walls

This Saturday, Augustine Kofie will be opening a solo exhibition, Circulatory System, at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco. The title is a play on words describing a new body of work that focuses on circular shapes in an interconnected system, much like an engine or a network of intersecting highways. Like many of his solo shows, Kofie has produced a soundtrack to accompany the exhibition of over 30 new brand new works including a large installation. More than a traditional DJ mix, this sound-assemblage […]

Streets: Montana Cans Across America

As most graf and street artists know, one of the suppliers of their tools of the trade is spray paint company Montana Cans. The Germany-based business now has a new project called Montana Cans Across America where a team of graf artists consisting of Smash 137, Wane and Sever take a 8-day roadtrip through the South. Here are some shots of the results of their hard work in Nashville from photographer Ruedione. Check it all out after the jump.

Last Saturday, AM attended the opening of Blurring the Lines at Corey Helford Gallery, which features new work by these East and West Coast graffiti masters. This exhibition marks a moment […]

Interviews / Releases: Mear One x Modern Multiples – “Global Uprising” 9 Color Serigraph

Mear One has just completed a new silk screen with Modern Multiples, to be released this Friday. It will be a hand separated, nine-color serigraph in an edition of 100, available at 1 pm PST through the Baurmann Gallery, who published the print. The subject is striking yet universal: a triumphant scene of victory as a city square is completely overrun by protesters, drawing upon recent protests in the Middle East, Europe, and the U.S. The scene is triumphant and hopeful, as a helicopter beams […]
