Showing: Friends With You – “Happy Rainbow” @ TMTP Cultural Center

It’s always nice to see concept images become reality – with FriendsWithYou’s exhibition in Hong Kong being no exception. The new installation from the Miami-based duo entitled Happy Rainbow opened to the public recently at the TMTP Cultural Center to the delight of their fans there. The inflatable bouncing installations as well as fiberglass, plush and resin sculptures are always a hit with the younger crowd but certainly was fun for all ages. Via Designboom. Last week, New York’s New Museum opened a new exhibition entitled Ghost in the Machine. The survey contains over 140 works of art by over 70 artists which explore the relationship between humans, machines and art. Miami artist collective FriendsWithYou will have their next exhibition open overseas in Hong Kong this coming Saturday (July 22nd). Happy Rainbow will be their first solo show in Chinese territory and will premier at the TMTP Cultural Center. Mike Stilkey – “Full of Smiles and Soft Attentions” @ Times Square (Hong Kong)

One of the busiest indoor malls (with more than 200,000 visitors a day) in Hong Kong’s Time Square recently played host to the work of Mike Stilkey (interviewed). The entire ground floor featured some of his signature book / painting installations with the largest piece standing 24 feet high. Openings: Meggs – “Truth In Myth” @ White Walls

Over the weekend, Australian-based painter Meggs opened his latest show Truth In Myth (previewed) at White Walls. The show featured a grand installation of a pyramid of skulls in a fully painted room, as well as a large street piece on the wall right outside the gallery. The new body of work consisted of paintings, collage, sculpture and mixed media that bridge the gap between past and present by fusing contemporary superhero elements with that of ancient mythology. Openings: ABOVE – “JET SET” @ Metro Gallery

ABOVE (interviewed) recently opened his solo show at the Metro Gallery entitled JET SET, appropriately named as evidenced by the Bay Area-based street artist’s globetrotting ways. The new body of work featured his signature arrows, refreshed with travel books and what look to be tourist photos. Also rounding out the exhibition was a London telephone booth installation, airline stewardesses dressed in retro 1950s “pan am” attire handing out boarding passes to showgoers, and two professional Argentinian tango dancers.
