Barry McGee has been busy this month.Â Not only was he in France for his massive install at the Biennale de Lyon and opening a solo show in Rome at Galleria Alessandra Bonomo, Mr. Pimple also found time to participate in the anniversary show at the Pasadena Armory. Â The Armory commissioned 20 artists to celebrate its 20 years of exhibition history with installations both inside the Armory and at different sites in Pasadena. Berlin-based artist, Jaybo (aka Monk), opened his show “Headscape: Tales From the Drifters” in London this weekend at the Signal Gallery (interviewed) in London. AM just got back from a lil’ visit to the Patrick Painter galleries in Santa Monica to take in the work of the Clayton Brothers (studio visit). The new shows look amazing. The larger works were being photographed when we popped through, so we offer up a nice lil’ view of the other gallery which showcases the smaller works. The larger works are just breathtaking. Video: Vhils – “Scratching The Surface”

AM has been very impressed by Vhils’ first UK solo show “Scratching The Surface“, which recently opened at Lazarides Rathbone Place. A video has just been released which documents the artist’s process of installation in the gallery. Looks like the resourceful people over at Bristol Street Art have perhaps confirmed what has been suspected to be the location of Banksy’s surprise show – Bristol’s City Museum on Queen’s Road.Â They went as far as taking a picture through the small gap in the front doors.Â According to them, it looks like something Banksy did in 2007 in Glastonbury.Â Apparently a private viewingÂ “may”Â be held on the 12th of JuneÂ with a public viewing starting on the 13th of June (usual museum opening hours 10 […]

Last night AM attended the opening for Tomokazu Matsuyama’s (interviewed) “Glancing at Twin Peaks” (previewed) opening at Joshua Liner Gallery. The highly anticipated opening for Matzu’s NYC solo drew a packed house. Matzu’s distinctly unique pieces exhibited his signature contemporary flair on traditional subjects. This show continued his use of bold color palettes and contrasting “splashes” that make the pieces leap out at the audience. Matzu and Joshua Liner Gallery were nice enough to invite AM for a sneak “peak” at Matzu’s full-gallery solo show, Glancing at the Twin Peaks, opening in NYC this Friday. Matzu and his helpers have been working around the clock to transform the space with paintings, murals and sculptures into one cohesive installation.
