Recently in France, Leandro Erlich reimagined Le Bon Marché’s signature escalators, utilizing his penchant for illusory installations. Following in the footsteps of Ai Weiwei, Edoardo Tresoldi, and Chiharu Shiota, who have all transformed the interiors of the famed Parisian department store, the Argentinian artist added a twist to the escalator’s exterior as well as set up lights inside that changed depending on the hour and season. This past weekend, from the 8th until the 11th February, the 19th edition of Art Rotterdam took place in the historical Van Nelle factory in the industrial area of one of the Europe’s major port cities. Yoskay Yamamoto // Facebook Artist In Residence Program

Recently, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) became the latest to go through the FB AIR Program. The artist-in-residence initiative saw the Los Angeles-based artist set up one of his signature clustered installations in one of Facebook’s new offices on the Palo Alto campus. Featuring a series of patterned paintings inspired by the LA sky, sculptural pieces, and hanging elements, Cali Sunset was a welcome addition to the creative work environment. On view thru this Saturday at Hosfelt Gallery in San Francisco is Illuminated Opposition, a new solo exhibition from Andrew Schoultz. The transformative showing from the Los Angeles-based artist continues his socio-political commentary with a series of paintings set among an immersive installation of wall murals and sculptural pieces. Amid the planning for the annual Nuart festival in Stavanger and the upcoming second edition of Nuart Aberdeen, the team behind these two major public art events just finished their first project for 2018. The National Gallery of Victoria recently commissioned Ron Mueck to create an installation for their permanent collection, his most ambitious project to date. Entitled Mass, the work which debuted at the inaugural NGV Triennial, features 100 fibreglass and resin skulls, each one measuring about a meter high. As one of the most gifted living Australian sculptors, Mueck almost exclusively creates smaller or larger than life-size pieces. Currently at Château La Coste in France, JR (interviewed) has an exhibition on view featuring a nifty installation that is a play on some of his most well-known works like his Women Are Heroes project in Kenya. Entitled Mind the Gap, the piece in the Renzo Piano Pavilion features a series of hanging circular tracks that have miniature trains running in different directions, all pasted with the French artist’s photographs. Last weekend, Shepard Fairey (featured) graced his hometown with an expansive exhibition at a converted Chinatown warehouse (1650 Naud Street), his first showing in Los Angeles in nearly 10 years. Presented by Library Street Collective, Damaged featured over 200 artworks created since 2015 ranging in technique and medium.
