Installation: Faith XLVII & Lyall Sprong – “Astronomy Nova”

During the recent Artscape Festival in Sweden, Faith XLVII teamed up with Lyall Sprong to create an immersive site specific installation set deep in the Värmland forest. Depicting the moon glowing and rotating within the tall trees, this piece is another example of how the South African-born artist is stepping further away from the classic street/urban art niche. The artists describe the piece as a “homage to our great timekeepers and the ancient internal rhythms that predate the construct of time, an ode to our connection with the external forces that define us.” Astronomy […]

Update: The Walled Off Hotel – Gift Shop

After joining the hospitality industry 6 months ago and successfully running a hotel in the middle of turbulent Bethlehem, attracting both tourists and media attention, Banksy just announced  the opening of a gift shop as part of its new Autumn schedule @ The Walled Of Hotel (featured). Simultaneously opening bookings for winter season as well as announcing the new Vandals Retreat program, the illusive artist is putting his latest project back on the headlines worldwide. The new gift shop is now open both online and at the premises and alongside the usual mugs […]

Showing: Rone – “The Omega Project” (Melbourne)

Recently in his hometown of Melbourne, Rone created a unique installation lasting only a few weeks at an abandoned 1900s weatherboard cottage. Entitled The Omega Project, the temporary showcase in the condemned house features the Australian street artist’s signature portraiture on the walls and interiors decorated by set designer Carly Spooner. The project is a homage a time past and is also the most extensive piece of art Rone has ever created in one space. Via Designboom. Discuss Rone here.

Showing: Slinkachu @ The Museum of Fine Arts (Ghent, Belgium)

Currently at the The Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium, Slinkachu has some works on view as part of a new group show Manufactories of Caring Space-Time. Not only does the UK-based artist have his signature miniatures on view that are part of the museum’s permanent collection inside but also has some installations outdoors as is his practice. Take a look at some of the clever and humorous scenes he has laid out for unsuspecting passerby’s to discover. Discuss Slinkachu here.

Showing: David Shrigley @ Skip Gallery

Turner Prize-nominated artist David Shrigley is currently showing a small installation with Skip Gallery in London. The small scale bronze sculpture located at Hoxton Square is pretty much the exact opposite of his giant bronze ‘thumbs up’ sculpture that is now gracing the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square (covered). Skip Gallery is an interesting concept set up by artists Catherine Borowski and Lee Baker as a fresh way of showcasing art in otherwise inaccessible or expensive areas. For their second project, the two collaborated with Shrigley who was delighted with the idea […]

Openings: Brusk – ‘In Memoriam’ @ Galerie Laurent Strouk

Street artist Brusk from the Da Mental Vaporz crew has returned to Paris for a exhibition entitled In Memoriam at Galerie Laurent Strouk that runs until July 15th, his second solo show (see Ad Vitam Eternam coverage here) in Paris. As you will see, the front sign ‘Matignon’ has been cheekily stroked through with black spray paint while highlighting the letters ART in the Gallery name. Combining a Fine Arts background with more than twenty years of graffiti, Brusk’s gestural painting is instantly recognizable. The French artist creates questions, variations, wanderings through a poetic fantasy, […]

Installation: Pejac – “Nature First”

Nature First is the title of the latest action by Pejac, revealed the other day via his official website. This installation once again shows his ability to work with different mediums while passing on a strong, important message. Like most of his works, this intervention speaks about environmental issues – the over-exploitation of natural resources, namely cutting down trees for human need. Playing with the idea of the surreal and familiar, the Spanish artist placed a children’s slide inside a forest in Olot just outside Gerona, […]

Streets: Splash and Burn (Sumatra)

Over the course of last couple of months, Ernest Zacharevic and a select of group of artists and activists have visited Sumatra and created public works and installations in effort to raise the awareness about the devastating effects of the booming unregulated farming practices of Palm Oil in Indonesia. After almost two years of planning, the Splash and Burn project that was fully self founded and self organized by the Lithuanian artist and his team, has been shared with the public and the results are impressive to […]

Three years after a similar art installation project in London, one of the UK’s most exciting artists will be introducing her quirky universe to New York City’s Meatpacking District. Customers will be invited to browse the aisles and do their regular grocery shopping, selecting fluffy editions of their favorite convenience store products. Every item you […]

Over the weekend, the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Arizona hosted the opening of Flourish, a group show curated by Thinkspace Gallery.
