Upcoming: POW! WOW! Long Beach

With the annual event in Hawaii expanding into SXSW this year and Taiwan last year, the POW! WOW! festival will finally hit the west coast on June 21-28. POW! WOW! Long Beach will feature a week of exhibitions, film screenings, talks and of course public murals. Participating in the street art will be Aaron De La Cruz, Benjie Escobar, Cryptik, Fafi, Hueman, James Jean, Jeff McMillan, Jeff Soto, Low Bros, Madsteez, Nychos, Push, and Tristan Eaton. James Jean – “Psychic Temple” Library Project (Part II)

After introducing you last month to the Psychic Temple project from James Jean (interviewed), we now have an update with some on site photos for you to enjoy. A collaboration between the nomadic Jean and architect Brandon Shigeta, the intriguing undertaking is commissioned by interTrend in Long Beach for their new library. Releases: James Jean – “Horse IV” Print

New week, James Jean (interviewed) will be offering up another beauty of a print on his online webstore. Entitled Horse IV, the timed release will be available 24 hours starting at 8:00 AM PDT on Tuesday, March 31st and ending at 7:59 AM PDT on April the 1st with edition size determined by the demand. It looks like the fabrication is finally underway for the Psychic Temple project for interTrend in Long Beach, a collaboration between artist James Jean (interviewed) and architect Brandon Shigeta. The amazing library for the communication company that specializes in helping corporate America to target Asian Americans will feature the imagery of Jean carved into the backs of an integrated series of bookshelves. Releases: Fables – The Complete Covers By James Jean

Currently available from James Jean (interviewed) on his online store are signed copies of Fables: The Complete Covers By James Jean. The 256 page book is a compilation of the work from when the gifted painter worked as the cover artist for the comic series Fables. Including prep and production art, the publication is a in-depth look at the early phase of James’ acclaimed career that made him famous. Discuss James Jean here.

POW! WOW! ’15: James Jean @ Honolulu Museum of Art (Part I)

Invited back to POW! WOW! Hawaii (more coverage here) for a second time (see 2014), James Jean (interviewed) has upgraded to a much larger mural this time around. POW! WOW! ’15 / Streets: Mural Overview (Part I)

At 10am on Monday, Feb 9th, the mural painting part of POW! WOW! Hawaii 2015 officially begun with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony at the Lana Lane headquarters in Kaka’ako in Honolulu. After the ceremony, the artists picked up their paint and needed equipment and started working on their designated walls. Along with mural painting that started off today and a museum show with Thinkspace Gallery (covered), one of the central events of POW! WOW!
