Recap: YESNIK x Jaybo – “For Better or Worse” @ (LA Popup)

Last weekend, YESNIK and Jaybo presented some new works for fans in Los Angeles with a surprisingly cohesive three day pop up show. Presented by F-U (For the Unconventional), For Better or Worse featured totemic nature-inspired works from the San Diego-based YESNIK that had a collage-like feel to the balanced compositions alongside Berlin-based Jaybo Monk’s portrait mashups which were described as “a fractured vision of contemporary society.” Both artists contributed sculptural pieces to exhibition – an eclectic selection of assemblages from Jaybo and some large-scale three dimensional representations of YESNIK’s imagery […]

From September 7-9, YESNIK and Jaybo will be holding a joint popup exhibition in Los Angeles at F-U (For the Unconventional). The two artists have collaborated in the past before (see Amsterdam 2017), sharing a background in 80s and 90s underground street culture and design and now taking similar artistic paths towards an increasingly abstract aesthetic. Previews: Dave Kinsey & Jaybo Monk – “Van Gogh Ate My Dog” @ Kallenbach Gallery

Tomorrow night (August 29th) in Amsterdam, Kallenbach Gallery will be opening a duo show from Dave Kinsey (featured) & Jaybo Monk. Entitled Van Gogh Ate My Dog, the new body of work from the two takes inspiration from the life and work of the Dutch Master with the American artist Kinsey contributing his distinctive still life paintings alluding to Van Gogh’s distinctive subject matter while the Berlin-based Jaybo wasn’t shy with his ear references including a an interesting sculptural piece. Showing: Modernica Chair Group Show @ Soze Gallery

Last Saturday night, Soze Gallery in Los Angeles opened a group exhibition that highlighted the form of the Modernica chair, seen through the lens of each participant’s artistic vision. Friends and artists who show with the gallery, created custom one of a kind versions of the chair with their signature styles and techniques with part of the proceeds going to benefit The Art Of Elysium, a non-profit organization that brings empowering artistic programs to children in the local hospitals in the area. Currently at The Boston Button Factory, Berlin-based Jaybo Monk has a new show up through July 14th, with an official reception scheduled for June 25th (7-10pm). While in Beantown, the Frenchman has also been busy with various events including an open studio event at SoWa’s First Fridays, live painting at the MFA Summer Gala, and a pop up show at Liquid Art House alongside Augustine Kofie and Todd Mazer. Currently showing in Berlin is Ephemeral, a group exhibition (curated by Johann Haehling von Lanzenauer) held at a temporary space by Circleculture in collaboration with Pret A Diner in Berlin (you may remember their work with Lazarides in 2011).
