Videos: Eli Broad on 60 Minutes

We only caught of glimpse of noted “venture philanthropist” Eli Broad at the Art in the Streets opening a couple weeks ago, but apparently Morley Safer was able to spend more time time with him for the latest segment of 60 Minutes. The engaging interview touched on many topics including the self-made billionaire’s charitable goals and philosphies, his art collection, and the love-hate relationship the art community has with him.

Releases: “Murakami Versailles” Book

Much like Jeff Koons, who in 2008 was the first artist granted the honor of  exhibiting in the royal French chateau, a book is set to release chronicling Takashi Murakami’s recent efforts to reinvent the home decor of the historic Palace of Versailles (covered). Ranking as the 39th most powerful art figure by Art Review, the Japanese pop art sensation had an impressive year, continuing his partnership Louis Vuitton, exhibiting with Gagosian in Rome, participating in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and even “collaborating” with […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Sprüth Magers

Sprüth Magers – based out of Berlin and London – certainly brought back to the states work by some of America’s best artists.  Their booth included a prominent sculpture by Sterling Ruby, a painting by artist-of-the-hour George Condo (whose paintings seemed to be everywhere at the fair this year), a photo by Cindy Sherman, a large text-based installation by Jenny Holzer, instantly-recognizable John Baldessari and Barbara Kruger pieces, and a painting by Jeff Koons.  See them for yourself after the jump… More after the jump…

Filling the Paris space with some of his signature “balloon” sculptures perched precariously in various formations, Koons brings new life to the works while adding some new twists like an appearance by Olive Oyl. Visiting Paris now would be an ideal time for contemporary art lovers as Koons and his pal Murakami at Versailles pack a nice one-two punch. More images from Koons’ show after the […]

Known for being one of the most well-paid artists today, Koons generously provided the work with no artist fee. In addition, Kiehl’s also provided support for the project. Kudos to RxArt, Kiehl’s and Jeff […]

Art Basel Switzerland 2010 – Part 2

As promised, we continue our coverage of Art Basel Switzerland 2010 by bringing you images of the contemporary works in the fair. Of course, almost all of today’s leading artists were represented at the show, making it literally a who’s who of the contemporary art scene. As with fairs in the recent past, Ed Ruscha seemed to be very hot, with his significant pop-text pieces popping up at several booths. Another artist that was perhaps even more highly visible at the show was American painter […]
