Basel Week Miami ’09: Jeff Soto – Primary Flight Mural

There are so many artists getting up at Basel Week Miami this year that it’s hard to keep up with everything. On our list today was Jeff Soto’s (interviewed) mural for Primary Flight. The almost completed piece, although different, is reminiscent of a mural he did in London during his show at StolenSpace in May. In fact, Soto tells us that doing some street work in the UK (the first time in 10 years) started him itching for more outdoor displays of his art like […]

Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – CHIMERA @ SCOPE

Of course, as you can see above, Jeff Soto (interviewed) will also be […]

Preview: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Jeff Soto x Jonathan Levine Gallery

Riverside native Jeff Soto (interviewed) will be one of the featured artists with Jonathan Levine Gallery this year at the SCOPE satellite fair. No stranger to Art Basel Week, Soto will be participating in multiple projects and exhibitions (more later), but probably will have the most work dedicated to this mini-show. Expect to see his usual acrylic on wood works and also his continued explorations into watercolor as you can see by “Rock Pile I” (above). More preview images via Soto’s blog after the jump…

Video: Jeff Soto – “The Sun Rises Again” Timelapse

Jeff Soto (interviewed) recently sent us this timelapse video of his piece “The Sun Rises Again” that he painted for the Giant Robot Biennale this year. It was definitely one of the standout pieces from that exhibition, and we are happy to see that Jeff is continuing to paint these ambitious pieces as his work is really suited for the large scale (like on the streets here and here). Check out one he’s working on for Art Basel this year here.

Openings: “Giant Robot Biennale” @ the Japanese American National Museum (Part II)

As we mentioned in Part I of our coverage of the Giant Robot Biennale, we saved four artists in the upper gallery to share with you in this article. The work of James Jean (interviewed), David Choe, Jeff Soto (interviewed), and Souther Salazar were definitely the highlights of the exhibition, at least in our minds. It seems like they put in the effort and time to create some of the best pieces we have ever seen from them. Take a look at all the amazing […]

Releases: Jeff Soto – “The Three Friends” and “Nature’s Splendor”

Next Monday, Oct. 26th will be a good day for Jeff Soto fans as the Inland Empire artist will be releasing a total of four new giclee prints through his online store, Potato Stamp.  The first three, appropriately entitled “The Three Friends”, come as a set and recreate three of the watercolor pieces he showed RVCA’s “Whammy!” show (covered).  The set will sell for $120 with all three prints measuring in at 10″ X 10,” edition of 100. The second release, “Nature’s Splendor”, is a […]

Baby Tattooville ’09: Sketches

As if the free giveaways, raffles and live paintings weren’t enough, Baby Tattooville actively encourages their artists to sketch away in the dozens of sketchbooks brought by the paying attendees. This year, AM got a chance to sit down with virtually every participating artist, as well as a few special guests. Check out the artists at work and some of the sketches we and other attendees received after the jump.

Semi-Permanent Melbourne ’09: Jeff Soto & Tara McPherson

Here you see Jeff Soto (interviewed) doing his best Shepard Fairey imitation, but what he is really doing is asking all of you to register and attend Semi-Permanent in Melbourne next week where he and Tara McPherson will be speaking. Fresh off a weekend at Baby Tattooville, they will be flying out very soon to the design event as well as making a stop at the Outre Gallery on October 11th at 2 pm. Jeff will be releasing a print there (seen after the jump) […]
