Openings: John Casey – “Little Excorcisms” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Earlier this month, The Breeze Block Gallery in Portland presented all new works from John Casey (along with Mike Egan’s solo ) entitled Little Excorcisms. For those familiar with the Oakland-based artist’s work, you will recognize his continued exploration of “fictitious human morphology” with his strange creations that seem to take a fantastical view of different body parts. Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. Rewind (Sept 24 – 30)

Leading things off this week is a video introducing the new Doggy Radio from Yoshitomo Nara. Openings: “Oakland NOW” @ Spoke Art (Oakland)

San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery recently teamed with East Bay Express, fiftyseven-thirtythree and the city of Oakland to set up an exhibition that opened in conjunction with the 12th Annual Art and Soul Festival. Preview: John Casey – “Hope Springs Internal” @ POVevolving Gallery

John Casey, who is also known for his sculptures, will be exhibiting a series of recent drawings at the POVevolving Gallery in Los Angeles opening this Saturday.
