Preview: “Space//Form” Group Exhibition @ Breeze Block Gallery

As the opening of the Space//Form group exhibition draws ever nearer, and following on from our studio view, AM brings you a glimpse of some of the work in this huge show. Over 100 artists are participating in the exhibit, which opens on 6th September at Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. The artists were each given the same brief and the same materials to work with and asked to explore and represent their interpretation of space and form within either the natural or built environment. Each piece of […]

Update: Space//Form Group Exhibition @ Breeze Block Gallery

One of the most interesting things about curating a group exhibition of over 100 artists is getting to see behind the scenes as the artists develop their work for the show (Chloe Early seen above). Updates come constantly as the participants share their excitement about creating work for the show, and getting to see  some of the creative process that goes into the work is always a pleasure. Space//Form opens in just a couple of weeks time now in Portland at Breeze Block Gallery and here […]

Upcoming: “Space//Form” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Following our recently curated group exhibitions in Hong Kong; East West Connect and Los Angeles; City of Fire, AM’s UK correspondent Sven Davis has branched out with his own curatorial endeavour Space//Form. The group exhibition brings together over 100 young contemporary artists, and opens 6th September at Portland’s Breeze Block Gallery. Curator, Sven Davis, has worked in architecture for over 20 years, so the thematic center of the exhibition is close to his heart as Space//Form centers around notions of the architectural landscape. Each of the […]

Openings: “Tiny Trifecta” @ Cotton Candy Machine

This past weekend, New York’s Cotton Candy Machine hosted their second annual “tiny” art showcase entitled Tiny Trifecta. As we mentioned in our preview, artists this year upped the ante as each created three pieces of original artwork for fans who may not have the opportunity to purchase their larger scale works. All you needed was a $100 and the patience to queue up for a chance at your favorite artwork. Tara McPherson curated strong and diverse lineup which included names such as James Jean, Audrey […]

Preview: “Tiny Trifecta” 2012 @ Cotton Candy Machine

This Saturday, New York’s Cotton Candy Machine will be holding its second annual “tiny” art show. Entitled Tiny Trifecta, this year’s edition looks to take it up a notch as each artist creates three pieces of original artwork costing only $100 each. We stopped by the gallery to sneak a peek and noticed that this year, artists aren’t just submitting simple “tiny” sketches. Many took their time to create some significant gems for all their fans out there. Tara McPherson curates a loaded line up […]

Upcoming: Josh Keyes @ Roq La Rue

With his exhibition at the University of Arizona’s Joseph Gross Gallery already open to the public (we’ll bring you photos of the opening reception coming up on August 30th), Josh Keyes (interviewed) is already working on his next showing. Hopefully, this painting from a new studio shot will be part of the upcoming show in Seattle as it already has hard core Keyes fans salivating at a resurrection of some of his most iconic “treadmill” imagery (some examples below). His show with John Brophy opens at Roq […]

Interview: Josh Keyes – “Above and Below” @ Joseph Gross Gallery

Next Monday, May 21st in Tucson, the newest exhibition from Josh Keyes will be open for public enjoyment at the Joseph Gross Gallery. The showing at the University of Arizona will be the first solo for the Portland-based painter at an academic associated gallery and as such he will be displaying a selection of old and new work which could be instructive on how artistic style changes and develops over time. We haven’t had a chance to sit down with Josh for some questions and answers […]
