AM attended the opening night for Cleon Peterson’s show White Flag at Joshua Liner Gallery a couple weeks ago. Being the first solo exhibition in New York, we were impressed by the sheer size and raw graphics displayed by Cleon. His color choices and figure composition seems to hold nothing back hitting the viewers right between the eyes with pure emotions. New York-based Japanese artist Tat Ito makes his NYC solo debut with a show at the Joshua Liner Gallery entitled Memento Mori, the opening reception for which takes place 6-9pm this Thursday. The Latin phrase (literally “remember you will die”) often is used in reference to artwork representing death or the impermanent nature of life. Video/Armory Week ’11 – David Ellis Wins Pulse New York 2011 Prize

Over the weekend, members of the Pulse Prize selection committee made the exciting announcement that this year’s Pulse Prize would be awarded to David Ellis. Ellis—represented by the Joshua Liner Gallery in the fair’s Impulse solo project section—exhibited a varied collection of sculpture, video and installation, including True Value (Paint Fukette), an animatronic assembly of paint buckets orchestrated to create a complex drum beat. Last night, Ian Francis (featured) unveiled his latest body of work Fireland at Joshua Liner Gallery. Exhibiting in his first New York solo, Mr. Francis again knocked it out of park, clearly dazzling the Armory week crowd that attended. Last week saw the opening of Tibetan master painter Pema Rinzin’s first New York solo show Compassion Transformed at the Joshua Liner Gallery, and the sizable crowd in attendance couldn’t have been more impressed with what they saw. We recently had the honor of visiting the studio of Pema Rinzin as he was preparing for his solo exhibition entitled Compassion Transformed, which opens January 27 at the Joshua Liner Gallery. Rinzin is a master of traditional Tibetan Thangka painting and also founder of the New York Tibetan Art Studio, where he passes on his knowledge and skill.
