After a successful opening (covered) in Tokyo at Perrotin last week, KAWS dropped the second verse of his tour of Asia with a showing at the gallery’s Hong Kong location. The pieces on display played out like part two of a cohesive body of work featuring abstract hints of the beloved cartoon and pop culture characters that the Brooklyn-based artist continues to be fascinated with. Releases: KAWS – “BFF (Pink)” Figure

Starting tomorrow at 10 am (EST), KAWS will be releasing the pink version of his BFF vinyl figure thru his website. Also available at that time will be the black colorway, and for those completists out there, the MoMA design store will have all three colors (blue, black, and pink) at their physical location as well as online starting tomorrow. Last night, AM stopped by the Tokyo branch of Galerie Perrotin to catch the opening of KAWS’ solo show, his first of two in Asia with Hong Kong coming up. Attended by his Japanese admirers (some from his Original-Fake days), international superfans, and the usual cast of locally-based artist friends, the opening showcased the Brooklyn-based artist’s newest pop culture character-based abstractions including a sweet Snoopy airplane shaped painting.Take a look at more photos from the opening reception below… Discuss this show here. Coming up at the end of March, KAWS will be opening two show at the Hong Kong (March 26th) and Tokyo (March 22) locations of Galerie Perrotin. Releases: KAWS – “SMALL LIE” Figures

After dropping hints on Instagram for the last few weeks, KAWS is ready to finally release his SMALL LIE figures. This new sculptural limited edition features his popular companion figure (a remix of Mickey Mouse with a skull and crossbones head), with the addition of a Pinocchio nose. The figure will be produced in the usual Black, Grey, and Brown colorways and will be available tomorrow at noon EST on the Brooklyn-based artist’s website. Discuss KAWS here.

Basel Week Miami ’18 / Releases: KAWS – “The News” Print Portfolio @ Pace Prints

Like in recent years (2015, 2016), KAWS has planned a limited edition release through Pace Prints tomorrow (December 6th at 11 am EST) for Basel Week Miami. The portfolio of nine tondo prints (run of 100), entitled THE NEWS, featuring the Brooklyn-based artist’s pop culture infused abstractions, have a tiered pricing system with the cost going up as the edition sells out. Releases: KAWS x Air Jordan 4 Shoes (Black)

It now sounds like the black version (see gray version) of the KAWS x Air Jordan 4 collaboration will be released on Cyber Monday. Constructed in a black suede upper, the sneakers features the Brooklyn-based artist’s signature “XX” on the heel and hang tag, a Jumpman x KAWS logo on the insole, and a glow-in-the-dark outsole.
