Releases: REAS and KAWS

If you are like AM, you missed out on today’s Banksy drop. But don’t despair, because there are plenty of other new artist releases out there. Get the info, after the jump.

Kaws x Kanye West

Artists collaborating on album covers is not a new phenomenom, but here is an interesting one from Kanye West that was done by Kaws. This one apparently is only for the iTunes release.  If this is true, then the only place you would see the album cover would be in your Ipod or music players.  Shows what a powerhouse iTunes and downloads have become if money is spent exclusively for the online release.  Not sure why Kanye wouldn’t use the same cover for the hard […]

Openings: Kaws @ Gering & Lopez Gallery

Last night KAWS had a very special opening reception to kickoff his new exhibition at Gering & López Gallery in New York. This marks his highly anticipated return to the New York fine art scene. AM friend: Wendy from Nitrolicious was invited by Edison Chen to join the opening night festivities which included celebrities and industry notables such as: Haze, Edison Chen, Dr. Romanelli, Peter Wentz (Fall Out Boy) and Leo (Union). The works varied in medium and size including Acrylic on canvas, Fiberglass sculpture, […]

Update: Kaws @ Gering & Lopez + Bonus

Some images were posted on Kaws’ blog of a visit by the film crew from CBS which presumably revealed some of the artwork for his upcoming Gering & Lopez show (previously teased). Looks to be more of the same abstract work we saw before as well as some SpongeBob paintings that look a little different than the ones he did for his Miami show. More after the jump.

4 Foot Black Companion // KAWS

KAWS heads everywhere are on high alert after this image popped up on the Original Fake website usually signaling an imminent release (although rumors point to a xmas drop).  Presumably the last colorway (black) after previous releases of the original and grey figures, this might be your last chance to own a 4 footer at retail.  This will probably be very hard to obtain unless he increases the run size.  The last figure was rumored to be limited to around 50 with less than 20 […]

Teaser: KAWS @ Gering & Lopez

Looks like KAWS has gone back to work after his successful Miami exhibit because we noticed a new painting on the Gering & Lopez KAWS exhibition page. This painting is entitled “Perils” and is a pretty large at 68″ x 86.”  Since it hasn’t appeared before, we believe this piece will be at the upcoming November exhibit in New York.   We can’t begin to imagine how much a painting of this size would command (or what they would price it at) considering we know […]

KAWS Bronze Head

For those so inclined, a KAWS bronze sculpture (self portrait) will be available at his upcoming show at Gering & Lopez. Sized at 11 x 6 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches and produced as an edition of 33, every one will be painted a unique color and cost 25K. These heads look like the same basic sculpt that was used for his Bounty Hunter Skull Kun figures seen below. via highsnobiety.

Storm Trooper // Kaws

Looks as though the highly anticipated “Kaws Trooper” has dropped in Japan at the Original-Fake store. This will be a nice companion piece for the Kaws Vader figure and will not be released anywhere else. Instinctoy has published full turnarounds (seen below) of all the details. Head over there for more photos. More photos of the release after the jump.

Openings: A night at Kaws’ Miami show

As a follow-up to our preview of Kaws’ “Saturated” show at Emmanuel Perrotin in Miami, we have some EXCLUSIVE pictures from our friend Kim, who generously shared with us a little opening night access! Kaws was on hand to sign some goodies for his legion of fans! It seems that Kim even got a little gift from the man himself! *Note that this show is “curated” by Pharrell and were NOT commissions for the trend-setting producer. So, the works were available for sale to the general public, but as […]

Preview: Kaws at Emmanuel Perrotin

“I’m sure” 68×68 Today Kaws (AKA Brian Donnelly) will open his exhibition “Saturated” at Emmanuel Perrotin in Miami. Ending his long hiatus from the gallery circuit, Kaws will make his long awaited return with a gallery known for representing blue chippers such as: Takashi Murakami and Robert Stadler. Curated by mainstream tastemaker and producer Pharrell Williams with works stemming from animation icon “Sponge Bob SquarePants”, Kaws is certainly making a splash with his return to the gallery circuit! We can’t wait to see what he […]
