Showing: KAWS – “HOLIDAY” Floating Companion @ Seokchon Lake (Seoul)

Judging from these photos, the long teased project from KAWS in Seoul has finally launched with his inflatable companion deployed in Seokchon Lake. Returning to Korea (see 2016) with a 92-foot-long (28 meters) floating HOLIDAY version of his signature character (and associated merch), the Brooklyn-based artist has harnessed the perfect relaxed vibe for this summertime installation. This piece is KAWS’ largest work to date and was masterminded by AllRightsReserved, follow in the footsteps of other similar installations like Florentijn Hofman’s giant floating duck in Hong Kong (covered). Tripling down on his collaboration with Uniqlo, KAWS will be releasing a new collection that re-imagines the world of Sesame Street. The new selection of adult and kids t-shirts from the Brooklyn-based artist is a follow-up to his Peanuts (covered) & Companion (covered) projects with the Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer. Continuing to riff on his BFF character, KAWS just announced the upcoming release of his SEEING by KAWS sculptural edition that doubles as a light. Consisting of alloy, ceramic, LED light and mixed media, the 37 x 17.4 x 18.6 cm figure comes signed and numbered (run 0f 250) and will be available on May 6th (10 pm EST). This morning, KAWS announced the surprise release of a PINNOCHIO wood sculptural edition on his IG. Produced in a run of 100, this signed and numbered iteration of the famous puppet, remixed with the Brooklyn-based signature aesthetic, is a wood version of his previously released vinyl figure.
