Baby Tattooville ’14 / Interviews: Laurie Lee Brom

Washington State based artist Laurie Lee Brom is best known for her pixie women set in fantastic worlds. She is a fixture in the art world regularly showing at galleries like Roq La Rue in Seattle and Gallery Nocturna in Belgium. AM recently got the chance to talk with her while she was preparing for this year’s Baby Tattooville about the women in her paintings, raising kids with Brom and how the movie Bad Seed has managed to creep into one of her newer works. Arrested Motion (AM): I would love to find […]

Openings: “Infusion” @ Roq La Rue

Infusion at Roq la Rue opened on Thursday, March 6th to a packed audience. The show’s goal was to infuse the gallery with talent that had not been seen in the gallery previously.  Almost all of the artists in the show are new to the gallery and they didn’t take the opportunity lightly. From the life size Wedding Party by Rose Freymuth-Frazier, the grotesquely beautiful Blue Room by Jeff Jacobson (seen above), and Zachari Logan’s Blue Man 2, amazing levels of detail were brought, all with […]

Not to be outdone after last month’s Baxter Collection show, art was once again packed to the rafters at Roq la Rue for the first show of fall, or as it has been dubbed, Roqtober! In her first solo gallery show, titled Moonlight, Magnolias, and Madness, Laurie Lee Brom brings us her soft touch while strolling through a moonlit bayou. Hints of fantasy abound as insects and animals provide whimsical interactions with their female subjects. Several of Laurie’s family and friends were at the opening, including […]

Openings: “I’ll Love You ‘Til The End of the World” @ Roq La Rue

The I’ll Love You ‘Til The End of the World group show opened at Roq La Rue this past Friday to a large crowd which simultaneously got to see some great art and escaped the freezing temperatures outside. The title of the show is based upon a Nick Cave song of the same name, which finds the protagonist just after a bomb blast rocks a hotel as he speeds away, thanking his girl continually in the chorus. While some of the artists rendered the lyrics in […]
