Release Party: Yoskay Yamamoto’s Koibito

Last night, we stopped by Munky King on Melrose to attend the release party for Yoskay Yamamoto’s (interviewed) Koibito figure. There were two colorways – gold and black (edition of 500) and a Munky King exclusive translucent-smoke colorway (edition of 150) – both seen below. There was also a raffle (one ticket per purchase) for an original painting and other prizes!  Also for sale were various prints and custom koibitos… More after the jump.

Preview: Yumiko Kayukawa @ M Modern

Japan native Yumiko Kayukawa’s show “The Last 34” opens tomorrow night concurrently with Matt Dangler’s solo at M Modern Gallery. Yumiko is known for her fashionable women, colors, and Japanese motifs. For this show, she seems to have make use of more animal clusters – we love the composition in the piece seen above. More images after the jump.

Releases: Jeremy Fish – “Heartfelt Sentiments”

Our friends over at OMG Posters have alerted us to a very nice set of screenprints entitled “Heartfelt Sentiments” that Upper Playground is releasing with Jeremy Fish. These four prints on wood are 11 x 14 and limited to 100 and are an affordable $200. This release seems to coincide with his show “Ghosts of the Barbary Coast” that opened recently … head over here if you are interested in purchase. More pics after the jump.

Gen Arts – Vanguard @ Basel Week Miami

Definitely one of the coolest fairs in Miami is the Gen Art Vanguard. (It probably doesn’t hurt to have one of the best parties of the week either).  Housing some of the most cutting edge galleries: Carmichael, Thinkspace, M Modern, Mark Murphy, Galerie d’art Yves Laroche, and etc, this was one of the fairs that AM made a point to visit more than once at Basel Week. We were on site early Friday morning to make our rounds to shoot the artwork and massive party […]

Openings: Mia @ Corey Helford Gallery

Mia was in attendance Tuesday night for “Illuminate,” (previewed/interviewed) her 3-Person show at Corey Helford. As nice as the paintings look online, Mia’s work definitely needs to be seen in person as pictures do not do the work justice. Fans of Mia’s work give proof to this as Mia has once again sold out a show. If you missed the show opening and are local, we encourage you to drop by the gallery, but please note that Illuminate only runs until December 6th. Mia will […]

Openings: Miss Van & Jeremy Fish @ FIFTY24SF Gallery

Jeremy Fish’s “Ghost of the Barbary Coast” and Miss Van’s “Still a Little Magic” opened simultaneously tonight at FIFTY24SF Gallery. Check out the sick collaboration piece they did above. Fish’s work for this show hearkens back to the gold rush days of San Francisco where gambling, prostitution, and crime were part of the seedy Barbary Coast area. His body of work fit this theme well with his mainly wood works and gold frames along with a “saloon” area. His popularity is steadily on the rise […]

Preview: Vivisect Playset V @ Gallery 1988 SF

The fifth installment of Vivisect Playset is opening up this Friday, December 5th at Gallery 1988 SF (7-10 pm). Luke Chueh (curator since 2004) has said this will be the second to last of this annual show (last one being next year).  Also dropping will be the Greg “Craola” Simkins mini-print set that we had previously talked about – good luck for all those hunting the chase original drawings (example of this as well as full list of artists and preview images we have gathered […]

Naoto Hattori Mini-Paintings

If you haven’t signed up for Naoto Hattori’s mailing list yet, we suggest you do so soon especially if you enjoy paintings such as the one above. Hattori’s well known for his psychedelic, grotesque, yet wonderfully detailed work – in fact, you will not believe how insanely detailed his paintings when you finally see a piece in person. Periodically, he releases affordable mini-paintings through his email list (as well as send out scans of his gallery work). We posted his latest batch after the jump […]

Teaser: James Jean @ Jonathan Levine

James Jean has posted up the poster image “Hare” for his upcoming show at Jonathan Levine early next year. Set to open on January 10th, the exhibition should mark Jean’s entry into the gallery scene as he will stop working on Fables, his most famous series of covers from his illustration career. As noted on his blog, this poster is available as a high res download. Discuss James Jean here.

Preview: Jonathan LeVine @ Scope Miami/Aqua Wynwood

After not participating in art fairs for a while, gallerist Jonathan LeVine decided to double-down this year by showing in not one, but two Miami fairs. At Scope Miami, LeVine will be exhibiting a solo show by GQ Artist of the Year, Shepard Fairey. And at Aqua Wynwood, LeVine has two booths: one showing works by Ray Caesar, Xiaoqing Ding and Adam Wallacavage, and another with a solo show of WK Interact. The above pics were all that AM was provided with, but we’ll be […]
