Fascinated by the play of light within the nighttime landscape ever since he was a young boy, Stephen Fox has taken that interest and translated it into a career of painting. Basel Week HK’18 / Openings: James Jarvis – “The Waste Man” @ Aishonanzuka Gallery

On display through April 28th in Hong Kong at Aishonanzuka Gallery, The Waste Man is the latest exhibition from James Jarvis (interviewed). Known for his commercial work as a designer as well as a fine artist, his comics-style imagery (often humorous) is influenced by “philosophy, alternate realities, minimalism and skateboarding.” The show mainly consists of drawings of his signature character, something the British works on quite frequently, as well as a few larger gestural pieces on canvas. Coming up on April 26th, Antler Gallery in Portland will be opening a new show featuring the paintings of Lisa Ericson (seen above) and Lindsey Carr (seen below) both of whom have taking their work in a direction we find interesting. Previews: Marion Peck – “StraVolti” @ Dorothy Circus Gallery (Rome)

On Saturday night (April 21st) in Rome, Marion Peck will be unveiling her newest body of work entitled StraVolti at Dorothy Circus. Influenced by Picasso and Cubism, the Pacific Northwest-based artist has created a new series of surreal portraits that redefines the definition of beauty. Currently in the gallery’s London location, Peck also has a show on view featuring some of her older works and drawings. Showing: Michael Lau – “COLLECT THEM ALL!” @ Christie’s (Hong Kong)

Earlier this week, Christie’s in Hong Kong put on display a selling exhibition from Michael Lau entitled COLLECT THEM ALL! Featuring the Chinese artist’s figurative work, whether that be in a painting or whether that be in sculptural form, they all feature the signature aesthetic that has come to be associated with what many consider to be the pioneer in popularizing the art toy or vinyl figure. Lovers of Snoopy and the Gang should rejoice with the impending launch of the Peanuts Global Artist Collective on April 16th. Starting in New York with the unveiling of public art murals in Hudson Square and then moving on to a special installation at the Snoopy Museum in Tokyo, artists Mr. A, Nina Chanel Abney, AVAF, FriendsWithYou, Kenny Scharf, Tomokazu Matsuyama (seen above), and Rob Pruitt will be remixing classic Peanuts imagery with their own artistic vision. Upcoming: Tim Biskup – “SPRING COLLECTION” @ FACE GUTS

On April 7th (6-10pm), Tim Biskup (featured) will be opening his SPRING COLLECTION show at FACE GUTS. Held at the Los Angeles-based artist’s gallery, workshop, and project space (4136 1/2 Verdugo Road), the exhibition will feature new paintings, tote bags, sweatshirts, handmade risograph zines, among other things.
