Preview: Jay Howell – “Enthusiastic Person” @ FFDG (SF)

On February 1st, Jay Howell will be presenting all new works at the Fecal Face Dot Gallery (FFDG), his third solo with the SF showspace. Entitled Enthusiastic Person, the 25 mixed media cartoon-styled works on paper will featuring renderings of the case of characters from his new animated children’s show Sanjay and Craig set to premiere sometime this year on Nickelodeon. If you didnt’ know, the talented LA-based artist is also behind the design of the main characters on Fox’s hit show, Bob’s Burgers. Discuss this show here.

Right on the heels of his showing (covered) at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, comes another show in his adopted city from gifted painter Joe Sorren (featured). The Great Cantaloupe Day, set to open on February 24th at AFA in New York City, will feature a collection of new paintings and sculpture as well as some new limited edition offerings. Last Thursday evening, Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco hosted the opening of the 2nd Annual Supersonic Electric Invitational to a packed house with many of the 32 artists in attendance. The show is curated by Zach Tutor, who founded and runs the Tumblr-based contemporary art blog Supersonic Electronic, by choosing some of his favorite artists who he felt are innovative, dynamic and compelling. Releases: Mark Ryden – “Wood Lincoln” Serigraph

It seems our friends at Pressure Printing have been working on a special project with Mark Ryden. Entitled Wood Lincoln, this reoccurring character by Mr. Ryden’s work comes to life in a beautiful 14-color serigraph that comes in a hand carved walnut veneered wood frame measuring 33″ x 27.5″. It’s time to start winding down our Basel Week Miami coverage here on AM with another look at the PULSE art fair (highlights here). Singapore-based Chandran Gallery will officially be opening its San Francisco gallery later in the year, after some needed renovations to its building.
