PULSE Los Angeles ’11: Joshua Liner Gallery

After giving you an overview of the inaugural PULSE Los Angeles fair earlier in the week, we now focus in on a couple of the individual booths. First up is New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery, who was mainly representing Kris Kuksi and his intricate assemblages, Greg Lamarche (interviewed) who worked on a mural for the event, and Dave Kinsey who also painted an impressive wall at the Standard while in town. Openings: Michael Leavitt – “The Art Army Royalty” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Several weeks ago, showing alongside Dylan Egon, the The Art Army Royalty of Michael Leavitt (interviewed) were on full display at New York’s Jonathan LeVine gallery. The solo show was made up entirely of Michael’s signature sculptural tributes to artists featuring a melding of their eerily accurate portraits and features of their work. PULSE Los Angeles ’11: First Look

With Art Platform in town, the PULSE art fair also decided to hold their Los Angeles event the same weekend. Featuring a mix established and emerging galleries, attendees are giving a nice variety of young and veteran artists.  Also associated with the fair is Pulse Projects, which included installations from participants such as Mike Stilkey, Jen Stark, and Kevin Cyr along with murals from Greg Lamarche and Dave Kinsey (covered). Art Platform ’11: First Look

Late Friday afternoon, AM stopped by the vernissage for Art Platform’s debut in Los Angeles. The new event, which looks to become the preeminent art fair in the LA area, is the sister fair to New York’s annual Armory Show. Although it did not attract as many blue-chip galleries as the Big Apple’s version, it was nevertheless an impressive start and we look forward to following the growth and expansion of the event in years to come. Openings: Ryan Heshka – “Strange Powers 2” @ Copro Gallery

Ryan Heshka recently premiered a new body of works at Los Angeles’ Copro Gallery. Presented by BLAB! The show entitled Strange Powers (part 2) is an exhibit of the self taught Canadian artist’s fun style that brings back nostalgic feelings of Sci-fi super 8 films, cell animation, pulp comics & magazines from a generation past.
