Preview: Kukula – “Lonely Opulent Things” @ Corey Helford Gallery

This Saturday night, Kukula returns for her second solo show at the Corey Helford Gallery after a sold-out affair in 2009. Entitled Lonely Opulent Things, this new body of work consists of 12 paintings, including her largest works to date. As evidenced by the title and a limited-edition Jacquard tapestry available at the show, the exhibition celebrates the excesses of French aristocracy, inspired by a recent trip to Versailles. AM recently attended the star studded charity art show Made In Polaroid held at Phillips de Pury. The benefit was a one night auction that featured 50 works created by the 50-50-50 project using Polaroid’s mobile printer. All proceeds went to support Free Arts NYC. On October 22nd, the Corey Helford Gallery will be presenting Ray Caesar’s first solo show that we will attend since the beginning of the year in New York. Jeff Soto (interviewed) is currently in Lyon, France prepping for the Les Enfants TERRIBLES satellite exhibition during Lyon Biennale week. While there, he is continuing to exercise his renewed love for mural work with this feline piece in a nearby park, which was inspired by a local chat (cat) that was hanging out as well as something for the local kids.
