Preview: Femke Hiemstra – “Big Thousands of Golden Flowers” @ Merry Karnowsky

This Saturday night, July 30th, Femke Hiemstra will be joining Audrey Kawasaki, whose works we previewed yesterday, and Deedee Cheriel for a show at Merry Karnowsky Gallery. Known for her detailed paintings (often on found objects) of her cast of animal characters set in surreal scenes and compositions, the Dutch painter will be taking viewers of this new body of work on a fairytale journey into mythical worlds of her imagination. This Thursday, a very special art fundraiser will be held at Joshua Liner Gallery for our friend Tim Strazza who was unfortunately diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. We are helping to sponsor a benefit event where all proceeds will go to his medical bills. Jeremy Fish (featured), who just had a solo show in New York (covered), was also recently one of the artists involved with the Abolut Blank project. The vodka brand from Sweden has long been associated with artist collaborations, some of which we have feature before (Asbestos, Steve “ESPO” Powers, Chiho Aoshima) here on AM.
