Openings: Shag – “Jungle Drums” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Last week in Los Angeles, Shag (interviewed) brought a little retro chic to the new Corey Helford Gallery location with his latest solo entitled Jungle Drums. Along with his signature paintings featuring a nostalgic look back when mod characters hung out sipping martinis, the downtown LA showspace also featured tiki sculptures, a mid-century decor, as well as a large wall covered with his imagery. Upcoming: Amy Sol – “Garden Gamine” @ Thinkspace Gallery

The last solo we had the opportunity of attending from Amy Sol (interviewed) in Los Angeles was back in 2013 (covered), so it was nice to hear she will be presenting some new works at Thinkspace Gallery soon. Entitled Garden Gamine, the set of fresh paintings will continue the Nevada-based artist’s series of delicate portraitures featuring her feminine subjects and their animal friends. An example of this can be seen above, but plan to be there for the opening on April 2nd to seen the rest. Discuss Amy Sol here.

Previews: “Conjoined 666” @ Copro Gallery

Tonight (January 16th) in Los Angeles, another Conjoined show opens (see 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011) at Copro Gallery with this one dubbed “666” for good measure. Curated by Chet Zar as usual, the sculptural group exhibition features “classic sculptures, hyperreal life like models, surreal assemblages, mixed media paintings, and other conjoined works.” Fans of the dark arts should stop by tonight and bring $6 for the entry fee. Aaron Horkey x Blood Milk Instagram Giveaway

Artist Aaron Horkey and Jess of Blood Milk Jewels recently teamed up for an Instagram giveaway. Releases: Charlie Immer // IxRUN – “The Funk Of 40,000 Years” Print

Fans of Charlie Immer’s work can now purchase The Funk Of 40,000 Years, a print just released through 1xRUN. The image is taken from Lyric 3, a show last year at the Inner State Gallery that was musically themed and curated by Glenn Barr. Immer was inspired by the song Thriller by Michael Jackson to paint this piece and included one of his signature skeletons painted in his characteristic style. If you attended any of the previous Supersonic Invitational shows, you know you’re in for a treat. We were unable to attend the reception last Saturday night at Spoke Art, but we met up with the curator/art blogger, Zach Tutor, earlier in the day for a look at all the artwork. Art Focus: Nunzio Paci

This weekend, our Art Focus feature is on Nunzio Paci, an Italy-based artist whose series of new works highlights his fascination with human anatomy as well as the man-nature relationship. The first five paintings seen below belong to a set that is devoted to the Baroque masters and will be on display at Art Stage Singapore with gallery Officine dell’Immagine from January 21 – 24.
