Previews: “Product Displacement” @ CHG Circa

This Saturday, May 23rd, CHG Circa in Culver City will be opening a group show entitled Product Displacement. Participants were asked to consider the “interruption” of the media and arts by the insertion of commercial advertising when creating a piece for the show. Much like the invasion of consumerism into our everyday lives, brands and products have invaded these artist’s works. Releases: Kenny Scharf x The Hundreds

The Hundreds recently unveiled their collaboration with Kenny Scharf (interviewed) on a new line of apparel. Taking the legendary New York street artist’s Hanna Barbera inspired cartoon imagery, deployed in a repeating camouflage pattern, the new collection is a camping-inspired series which includes a poncho that converts into a tent. Releases: Ron English – “Temporal Boxing Brain”

Earlier this month, Ron English (featured) intruded something new produced by ToyQube entitled Temporal Boxing Brain. Based on one of the NY-based artist’s paintings, the sculptural release is a good example of his wit as well as penchant for creative remixing of common items and pop culture. Upcoming: Thinkspace – “LAX / DTW” @ Inner State Gallery

On June 6th, Inner State Gallery will be opening a new group show in Detroit entitled LAX / DTW. Previews: Scott Musgrove – “Wilder” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Tomorrow night in New York, Scott Musgrove (featured) will be making a return to Jonathan LeVine Gallery for his third solo there. Entitled Wilder, the new paintings, drawings and sculptures from the Seattle-based artist continues his longstanding series of works that explore mythical creatures that are now extinct. Although Musgrove’s imagery holds an element of whimsy and humor, he is nonetheless sincere in his focus on issues of conservation and his concern with the rate of extinction of endangered species in our world. Releases: Luke Chueh x Common Artist Project Apparel

Continuing to spread his iconic sad bear imagery, Luke Chueh (interviewed) recently collaborated with Common Artist Project on a collection of clothing. Featuring a limited edition run of Pullovers, Rib Muscle Tanks, Short Sleeve Tees entitled “Bolt,” the line of clothing with the pink lightning bolt and his most famous character is a homage to Ziggy Stardust. Audrey Kawasaki / Static Medium 10 Year Anniversary Giveaway

As some of  you may know, our friends at Static Medium initially started their little company to make prints for Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed). So, it is only fitting that for their 10 year anniversary, they have dug up some archived limited editions from Kawasaki to give away in celebration of reaching this milestone. Releases: Alex Gross – “Memory Fragments” Print

Recently, Alex Gross (interviewed) offered a new print through his website entitled Memory Fragments, the image taken from a painting that recently exhibited in a group show at Koplin Del Rio Gallery in Los Angeles. Limited to a run of 100, the new release will cost $249 with an image size of 23″ x 30″ with a total paper size of 27″ x 34.” Head over here to add it to your collection if interested. Audrey Kawasaki, Andrew Hem, Mari Inukai Murals @ Worcester Museum (Part I)

With the Samurai! show (co-curated by Eric Nakamura, editor and founder of Giant Robot Magazine) at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts now open to the public, the artists invited to paint murals for the exhibition were able to start their efforts last week. One of the artists invited, Andrew Hem, has created large scale public art in the past, but the other two, Audrey Kawasaki and Mari Inukai were not as experienced with mural painting. Releases: Camille Rose Garcia – “Mirror, Black Mirror” Book & Giveaway

The 175 page monograph documents seven years of work made by the artist after moving to a cabin in the woods of Northern California and costs $70.
