Showing: “Skull Show” @ The Garage, Amsterdam

Amsterdam’s secretive street & urban art gallery, The Garage, is celebrating the end of the year with a group show featuring works by their represented artists and friends. The Skull Show is features artwork by different artists from all over the globe, working with different mediums, in different sizes, but all sharing the same familiar theme. The exhibition opened on the 29th of November, in a very discreet setting of an old 17th century carriage house in the canals of Amsterdam. The highlights of the […]

Openings: Mike Leavitt – “Empire Peaks” @ Jonathan LeVine

Last month, we stopped by the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York to check out a new showing from Mike Leavitt (interviewed) entitled Empire Peaks. Showing alongside Riusuke Fukahori’s work, which also had a three-dimensional feel to it, the new body of work from the Seattle-based Leavitt featured a mashup of historical figures and Star Wars characters, something we gave you a glimpse of in our earlier studio visit. Take a look at some photos of the new sculptures, like the Ghandi x Yoda figure above… Discuss Mike Leavitt here.

Openings: Kris Kuksi – “Revival” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

The Joshua Liner Gallery in New York recently opened a solo exhibition from Kris Kuksi entitled Revival. The intricate and complex sculptural works from the Kansas-based artist plays a perfect contrast to the deceptively simple works from Riusuke Fukahori, who is concurrently showing in the same gallery. Kuksi’s mixed media assemblages explore the dark sides of the human psyche with ornate representations created from model kits and other materials that he has re-appropriated. His works need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated, but for those unable […]

Openings: AJ Fosik – “Against The Infinite” @ Jonathan LeVine

A couple weeks ago, AM stopped by the Jonathan LeVine Gallery to check out new works from AJ Fosik collectively entitled Against The Infinite. Inspired by The Denial of Death, a 1973 Pulitzer Prize-winning work of psychology and philosophy by Ernest Becker, the new sculptural works explore the idea that humanity has an “inherent struggle between its dualistic nature—a physical self and a symbolic self.” Along with free-standing works, there is also an installation piece from the Portland-based artist that is comprised of 30 individual animal faces […]

We have some photos here of Viveros’ working […]

Candice Tripp & Giles Walker – “I’M NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN!” @ Black Rat Projects

Painter Candice Tripp (interviewed) and Giles Walker (known for his immersive robotic installations) have a collaborative show with a public opening scheduled this Saturday (November 30) at Black Rat Projects. IʼM NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN will include individual works from the two artists like the Tripp paintings seen here as well as several collaborative installations (hinted at in the photo directly below). Based on the prior works from the two, the intersection of their worlds promises to be dark and beautiful at the same time. Discuss Candice Tripp here.
