Dave Cooper x Johnny Ryan – “Pig Goat Banana Cricket” TV Series

The Canada-based Dave Cooper, who we last saw during a New York solo show, recently made the trip to Los Angeles to do more work on his recently green-lighted animated series with Nickelodeon. Pig Goat Banana Cricket was developed with Cooper in charge of art direction with Johnny Ryan writing for the children’s network, who have ordered 26 episodes to begin with. Openings: Masakatsu Sashie – “Coacervate” @ Jonathan LeVine

Last month, we stopped by the Jonathan LeVine Gallery to check out a new solo show from Masakatsu Sashie (featured). Included in the exhibition entitled Coacervate (Latin for “to assemble together or cluster”) of course were different permutations of the fan-favorite globes created out of buildings, appliances, vending machines, and other urban man-made elements, but also seen was an impressive sculptural representation (seen above) of the Japanese artist’s signature imagery. Openings: Tara McPherson – “Wandering Luminations” @ Jonathan LeVine

AM recently attended the opening of Tara McPherson’s newest show at Jonathan LeVine, her third solo with the Chelsea gallery. Inspired by the unexplored realms of deep space and deep sea, Wandering Luminations features the Brooklyn-based artist’s surreal portraiture of females and creatures all rendered in her signature palette of pinks and teals. Previews: Jeff Soto & Maxx242 – “Fire Within” @ Bunsen Goetz Gallery

This Saturday, November 9th, the Bunsen Goetz Gallery in Nuremberg, Germany will be hosting a two person show from Jeff Soto (interviewed) and Maxx242. The two friends and studio mates, who recently travelled together to Luxembourg (covered), will be returning to Europe with new works playing with “themes of love, sexuality, and spirituality” for Fire Within. In association with the exhibition, the two artists from Riverside, California (Nuremberg’s sister city) will be giving a talk at the German-American Institute at Nuremberg on Thursday, November 7th at 7 pm. Upcoming: “Black Moon” @ Model Citizen Studios

Open for two days only starting tonight, Black Moon is a group exhibition featuring four California-based artists Jessicka Addams, Camille Rose Garcia (seen above), Elizabeth McGrath, and Marion Peck. Curated by Alix Sloan, the show will feature Addams’ octopi-related imagery, CRG’s recent obsession with bats, McGrath’s three-dimensional art, and Peck’s clown portraits. Previews: Marco Mazzoni – “Naturama” @ Roq La Rue

On November 7th, Marco Mazzoni is presenting his newest body of work alongside Lindsey Carr at the Roq La Rue gallery in Seattle. Openings: Ron English – “Popogandastan” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Last Saturday night, fans of Ron English (featured) packed the opening of his newest show at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, eager to see a new body of work that has been two years in the making. Popogandastan featured pieces that explored the gifted painter’s incredibly detailed world, filled with his surreal cast of characters and lush backgrounds.
