After sharing some in-progress shots of the murals going up at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts in association with the Samurai! show (co-curated by Eric Nakamura, editor and founder of Giant Robot Magazine), we now have a look at the finished walls. Audrey Kawasaki took the high road painting one of her beauties on the second floor balcony of the Lancaster Lobby while Mari Inukai went underneath her, also making a play on the Japanese-themed exhibition with her imagery. To the side, Andrew Hem’s large piece looks down on visitors as they admire his choice of […]

Audrey Kawasaki, Andrew Hem, Mari Inukai Murals @ Worcester Museum (Part I)

With the Samurai! show (co-curated by Eric Nakamura, editor and founder of Giant Robot Magazine) at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts now open to the public, the artists invited to paint murals for the exhibition were able to start their efforts last week. One of the artists invited, Andrew Hem, has created large scale public art in the past, but the other two, Audrey Kawasaki and Mari Inukai were not as experienced with mural painting. Judging from these photos, the two ladies more than held their own. Photos credit: Worcester Museum. […]

Openings: “Love Conquers All” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday night, AM stopped by the “Love Conquers All” show in Culver City at the Thinkspace Gallery. The exhibition’s concept was based on the struggle of the gay community for equality with part of the proceeds were donated to Equality California. Things don’t always turn out well for themed group shows, but this time, many of the artists were able to maintain their signature imagery yet at the same time subtly produce relevant works.
