Basel Week Miami ’15 / Previews: Jeff Gillette // Copro Gallery @ SCOPE

Some 10 days before the official start of Basel Week Miami in Florida, Copro Gallery has introduced two new works by Jeff Gillette, created exclusively for this occasion. The originator of Dismayland concept (covered), created two paintings influenced by his recent participation in Banksy’s Dismaland (covered). The first piece titled Dismaland Castle depicets a post-apocalyptic Dismaland setting. With the infamous torn down Disney castle in the center, WSM seaside in the back, and the entire area being covered with rubbish and slum-like constructions, it looks like a bad case future scenario to say […]

Tomorrow (September 24), as part of YoungArts Awareness Day, sculptor Daniel Arsham has prepared a special interactive event in Miami. Similar to his current exhibition in Hong Kong (covered), the Brooklyn-based artist will have an installation of his “future relics” on display, with nearly 2,000 objects made of chalk that visitors can use to draw or write their impressions of the future. More info about the event and an opportunity to purchase tickets here. Streets: Stephen “ESPO” Powers (Miami)

Stephen Powers recently shared photos of a massive mural he painted at The Carlton Hotel in Miami, directly behind The Betsy Hotel. Provided with a blank wall and all the spray paint he could want, the Brooklyn-based artist also know as ESPO covered the facade with his distinctive wordplay and witty “Espoetry.” Take a further look at the details in the images below… Discuss ESPO here.

Basel Week Miami ’14: Tom Fruin @ AQUA (Paul Loya Gallery)

While walking through the Aqua Art Fair (covered) during Basel Week Miami, we were delighted to come across the work of Tom Fruin at the Paul Loya Gallery booth. Although we were familiar with his amazing stain glass installation pieces (see 2014, 2012), we were not aware of the versatility of the Brooklyn-based artist. On display were metal works fashioned into cop cars and grids as well as a quilt made from found drug bags. Take a look at more photos below… See all our coverage of Basel […]

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Swoon

Along with a large installation piece as part of The Dean Collection at SCOPE Miami and an underwater art extravaganza at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel pool, Swoon (interviewed) also presented a new mural for her fans that made it out to Basel Week Miami. Housed in the prestigious Wynwood Walls complex, the large wall will be preserved for future travelers. Take a look at more photos below… See all our coverage of Basel Week Miami here. Discuss Swoon here.

Basel Week Miami ’14: Pryce Lee @ Untitled. (Anonymous Gallery)

While taking in the art at the Untitled. art fair (covered) in Miami, we stopped by the booth from Mexico City’s Anonymous Gallery to check out a few works from Pryce Lee. Along with pairing an open cage with one of his “bird hitting the window” works, the artist who balances his time between New York and the UK also contributed one of his signature bullet pieces, but this time incorporating an aquarium. See all our coverage of Basel Week Miami here. Discuss Pryce Lee here.

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Case (Miami)

Along with a permanent mural at the prestigious Wynwood Walls complex, German street artist case (aka Andreas von Chrzanowski) also made time to paint this beautiful piece in the surrounding area. Dedicated to the courageous Tuğçe Albayrak who was beaten to death just because she tried to save two other girls from beeing molested by some thugs, the wall certainly stood out with the Maclaim crew member’s signature use of hand imagery and photorealistic spray can skills. Take a look at more detailed photos below… See all our […]

Versatile artist Jen Stark certainly kept busy with her art visible at various venues during Basel Week Miami, including showing at the Untitled. art fair (covered). Before leaving town, she also completed a large scale public mural at the Miami International Airport located at Terminal D & E (3rd level), just off the moving skywalk.
